Listening to “Train” right now, this is sooo good.

Makes me want to stop whatever I’m doing and go make some music.

Not to out myself as a millennial but uh, this album fucks. 10/10 most tracks are going on my workout+dance playlists.

I’m hearing so many things in these tunes, and have no idea if I’m reaching. It’s giving Son Lux, Rationale, Kelly Lee Owens, Caroline Polachek, etc etc

thanks so much everyone, putting out a record right now is so weird and your kind words are very, very appreciated.

we had a ‘opening night’ party last night, which included a bunch of cool contributions from friends (dance by emma portner, 3 song SE performance, dj set by merrill garbus, and music vid commentaries), but also opened with an improvised modular set i recorded using the stems from the record. mostly morphagenes sequenced by kria into a bam verb, + tr8s, dfam & matriarch. it was so fun, thinking of exploring this configuration more in depth.

you can still watch it until sometime on the evening of 9/26 if you’re interested:

again, thanks so much.

Worth the wait and looking forward to my vinyl arriving. Really love the album - not a weak track

Whoa whoa whoa. Incredible! This sounds sounds super rad and is extremely my jams. Would very much dig a quick rundown if that isn’t a pain and doesn’t pull energy away from the release! Especially the Kria/MG combo.

Congrats to you guys!

@madeofoak My wife and I are expecting our daughter Nov 12th, we felt her react/kick/flail to music for the first time in the car to Numb. We’re really enjoying the new album, thanks!

thanks! here’s the rig (matriarch off to the right)

setup details

tr8s is the main clock, sending the trigger output to the modular rig and midi clock to the matriarch.
two morphagenes, each just getting 16th notes, running sequentially - the first one in the chain is running through a qpas - the HP output goes to one half of the xpan crossfade section and the LP goes to an optomix (two channels of kria trigs go to the strike inputs, a short decay envelope on 2&4 goes to the main control input) and then into the other half of the crossfader. this gives you an interesting double crossfade thing - the freq knob on the qpas is crossfading between the HP signal and the rhythmically punched LP signal, and then you blend those two with the crossfades on xpan, super fun and percussive sounds from pretty much any source material. i sequence the slide input using either the cv kria channel or one of the cold mac outputs, which is processing the wogglebug’s stepped cv. the other two channels of kria cv are going to each dfam osc v/o input, but i’m still sequencing the dfam with the built in step sequencer. really fun way to get these phasing kria interval melodies within the percussion. that goes to a hendrikson with a boss metalzone in the loop and then clouds > volume pedal. it’s really flexible and manageable, there’s always a clock if you want it but the whole thing can run free as well, nice to repatch / mult / cold mac cv signals to get everything moving in a related way but also be able to have it all fall apart in a moment.

Ahhhhhhhh this is so wonderful and helpful and brilliant. I’m going to digest this over a cup of coffee and then shamelessly steal as much as I can…

But for real, appreciate you being open about your setup. This is like going to modular school for me. :grinning:

I really like every track. Thanks for making 2020 less 2020! I’m probably going to listen to this album way too much, just like I do with your previous recordings.

this is quickly becoming one of my favorite releases of 2020. i’ve been a fan of SE for a while but this is by far my favorite music you and amelia have put out. so subtle and textural! really inspiring stuff, thanks for sharing some of your process on here.
