Wow. This is bonkers. I can’t believe you got this built so fast. Was playing with this last night and adore it. Thanks for your hard work!

Seriously, the more I think about it, the more bonkers it is that this is an Elektron box on the norns. To do this in a simple Lua script is beyond impressive.

this is great. feels like I can fully replace my octatrack with norns now

Once we can get full midi control over global params, the main draw of the octotrak, the fader, could be hacked together and make it full on Octotrak in a sweet, grid based box!

new update

  • increased steps resolution for parameter locks to complement new realtime input mode (256 vs 16 previously)
  • per-step track scaling

This is grand. A few notes:

  • filter curves seem like they need to be made more… curvy? Most of the action on the lowpass filter, for instance, is at the furthest few notches of an encoder. Feels like some kind of explin action needs to happen there, or something; I can’t tell what.
  • you can adjust the divisions by scrolling into the top bar, but they don’t persist beyond a single page of a loop. Shift-page of grid works absolutely fine, but it took me a while to discover that the encoders weren’t much good for setting that.

that’s fixed. filter curves require some tweaking, i’m agree

wow can’t wait to play with this. so excited about the realtime input and 256 step resolution.

thanks.

Would be grateful to see a quick runthrough of how people are using this on Norns

Is there by any chance someone willing to translate this amazing script into a 64 monobright compatible version? I just started diving into lua this morning by following the Norns studies and so I can’t really port it myself (yet?)…

I gave it a go on my grayscale anyway and got so much thrilled by it even with just half of the grid available (that’s why I felt like asking was a good thing)

One thing I’m also curious about, is there a way to implement midi out/in? This is both an amazing sketch pad AND an awesome performance tool; but it would be nice to be able to push these patterns (and performances) out to my DAW and to bring some patterns in to Takt to play with/explore more.

Would that be possible? Btw, if it IS and I just haven’t looked at the params closely enough, I apologize.

I was planning to add separate midi sequencing page with step locks for cc’s and stuff. For now there is midi input possibility and clock out for syncing with midi gear

Those are all amazing tools for continued performance! Thanks for the hard work on all of this. In the time being, recording the loops in to Ableton works well too. The midi CC stuff will be a really cool, fun addition!

Is there any reason to own a digitakt now? :joy:

Just got a fates up and running and this script had me laughing out loud at how impressive it is. Well done.

Anyone kind enough to make a run through video? I never used the script when it looked like the (amazing) documentation and now I see things that look different and I can’t seem to work it out.

Simple trigs work, but any edits I make seem to get reset the next time the playhead hits them? Pattern mode opens what looks/acts to be a tonal grid? Copy mode seems to work to copy trigs (can’t confirm locks since I can’t seem to apply any) but I don’t get access to the randomization functions?

Thanks for your patience.

This is absolutely next level work.

There are few changes in how things work in new version (closer to elektron stuff i guess)

  • you need to hold the step while editing params for step lock
  • bottom row changed - new pages for midi sequencing, realtime input, and sampling
  • no randomize stuff (yet)

I will update docs soon

Does this have (or will it in future) global swing?
