When I was playing with these a lot I had a bag that was full of bottle caps and wadded up paper and I would just drop a few contact mics down in there and squeeze the bag to varying degrees. Made some great crispy sounds.

Looks interesting. Do you have one piezo per lid, how does the wiring work ? Got some spare after a recent Mikrophonie build :slight_smile:

Great idea! On a similar thread I have experimented a bit recently with driving a glass container with some water inside, with sharp low freq sounds the water splashes around a bit & sounds pretty neat. Exciters on the glass instead of piezos but same idea.

Thank you! For whatever reason, the audio ran after I closed and opened it again. Is there a simple way to get it into Live itself?

its pretty crude. Its got feet for playing on a desk. Looks like one of the rubber feet as fallen off.

Cool. So four wires, two from each piezo that connect to the tip and sleeve of a mono plug perhaps?

unfortunately, i’m not familiar enough with Live, my 1st guess would be to copy and paste the whole thing into a Max4Live device, and then instead of the ezdac~ object use the “plugout~” object which should send the audio out to the track within which the device is loaded, but there’s also ways to route audio from Max to Ableton(leaving both apps open… possibly Jack or others which would allow the router to show up as an I/O device in the ‘Audio Options’ window of Max)… but not entirely sure so
here’s a bump for anyone else in the know who can help here with routing to Live?

yes and they are clamped on with lolly sticks. Like all piezo things benefits from a bit of pre-amping.

Synthesis Technology E102 has a digital noise output which is a morphing wavetable of different kind of noise. There are two positions that has noise like this. (Its my go to noise for experimenting.)

Actually yea, it was as simple as copy/pasting everything into a new max instrument in Live and switching the output connections.

Nice tips! I tried the bacon patch with the E950 Circuit Bend VCO, which has a sine and a kind-of-pink noise output in self patch and i ¡t was a success.

It’s a wonderful and very well thought out module. I use it a lot with fixed filter banks for two stages of filtering for percussion sounds, as different flavors of noise for S&H, and really anywhere I need to add noise to add texture and taste to sounds. That plus the SSF URA at audio rates (especially the gate out for digital noise), is all I need in my 15U. Having that many simultaneous outputs with different flavors of noise in that HP is just incredibly useful in any system. Quanta out is super useful as well for an analog noise source for clicks, crackle, and dust as mentioned above.

Thinking about the Velvet Noise uunit from the ER-301 (which, at each sample, has a random chance of firing a 1-sample impulse which has a 50/50 chance of being positive or negative), I came up with a quick Bitwig Grid noise machine:

Proper-ish velvet noise would be blend at 100%. More toward 0% it’s more bursty and sounds more like vinyl crackles and random dropouts.

The multiplier on Density squares it to make the control behave better – replace one of the inputs with another pink noise module for additional roughness, though it doesn’t really do velvet noise anymore. I guess I could build another blend into the patch for that :slight_smile:

edit: It occurs to me I could simplify out the last Add by patching the XOR out into the red input on the Subtract. It’s like I wrote “X + (0 - Y)” :blush:

@RABID I think that patch is actually the original source of parts of the patch I found. Love that Memories of a Broken Dimension thread. I checked to see if the game was finished - as I played the original demo years back. Yes! I use it in almost every patch I make. I bought it after spending a weekend around a bunch of waterfalls.

That is some unusual software. Is there a proper guide or examples of how to use anywhere?

I used Automatonism, modular patch in Pure Data for generating clicks, pops, hiss, blips, and noise.
Only used basic waveform : sine, tri, saw, and pulse.

After I recorded it (live), then I use it for sound compositions (minimal approach):
