It was a piece about the process of manufacturing and reparability for a website that is about owners fixing things themselves.
There’s a section in the article titled “Fadergate” that seems to try addressing the issue with the fader, the point I’m making is that this section does not do the issue justice. It’s unfair to 3rd party retailers to try passing the blame onto them. And yes I agree TE did not commit a crime or intentionally defraud customers, of course not, but they have not handled this well and have not admitted any fault which is dissapointing.

circling back to ask…has anybody had success replacing the other caps with something grippy?
Fwiw, my unit ordered Dec delivered mid-Jan arrived with a new “ring” on the fader, such that you cannot really apply any vertical force, and also cannot fit on the fader cap. I had assumed all newer units were shipping with this new piece as a fix to the problem. Anyone else receive one with this modification?
If it’s not clear from the photo: the black ring around the original fader is wider than the slot for the fader’s travel path, such that if any vertical force is applied to the fader, the black ring hits the main gray chassis of the device just about immediately, preventing downward force.

Mine came like that. Everything worked properly. I still ended up returning it, but not because anything was broken.
ooooh I want that little black cap. I wonder if they will send it if I email them.

I was under the impression the black ring was just a new protection method for shipping, to be removed on arrival when you fit the knob? Unless I’m missing something it’s not designed to stay on there instead of the knob.

That makes sense—once the knob’s on there (if you can get it on without breaking the fader), it seems to do pretty much the same thing? (And actually, leaving it off might leave the fader more vulnerable, I hadn’t thought of that ….)
Yeah you’re probably right. But it’s clearance from the chassis is much smaller than the knob’s, so it seems much better in the long-term at preventing the sort of downward pressure that is apparently breaking people’s faders

its just a piece of soft plastic tubing.
In a bit of a pickle here. Composing my first song on KO2 and past bar 10 I no longer see the “sub-beats”. Is there a way around that? Or am I just screwed?
For clarification. Everything before the 10th bar shows something like, “9.4.1” to “9.4.8” after that it changes to “10.1”.

That’s a shame. I got mine with the little protective cap for shipping and it took a significant amount of force to get off as well as putting the cap on. Mine seems ok for now, but I am concerned it will fail.
It makes sense this is a custom part due to the shaft having a Lego type interface. I think a custom cap designed for a standard fader would be a better way to go. Do people really care they can use Lego parts with their instruments?
I’m wondering if I can’t just file down or shave off a slight bit of the fader stem or cap to allow them to fit without pressure.
I’ve heard heating up the fader cap helps, not sure how people go about this… best of luck. One piece of advise I have is to really avoid any pressure on the fader, from my experience it will break fairly easily.

I kind of want to do a performance art piece where I order a brand new KO II, push in the included fader cap that is supposed to be pushed in, note that the act of pushing has broken the fader, send it back, get another, push the fader cap in, note it’s broken, and repeat that until someone either gets bored and revises the design, or I have a nice amount of video material to make an actual consumption critical statement out of it.
Because, I mean, if they ship a device that has a fader and a fader cap, that kind of hints the fader cap is supposed to be pushed in so that it’s on the fader, and if it breaks the fader, it’s the manufacturer’s fault and they ought to make it better - not the customer’s responsibility to baby a portable device they’ve bought.
(Note: wrote that in more silly than snarky way and no blame to anyone who feels like babying theirs - but the point stands, it’s ridiculous if you have to be careful and scared when installing a fader cap and if that’s still A Thing even after they replaced the limited edition packaging with better one, don’t know what to say. Ps. I still want one.)

I’m still looking for a way to customize the knob caps and if LEGO were the best way to do it i’d be fine with that
I also cant lie, tho my fader has been fine, i sincerely wish they had chosen to leverage decades of dj r&d poured into portablism tech to include a standard fader (or allow users to easily swap the part when it fails).
LEGO couldve still been integrated into the battery cover and sides

Speaking even less snarkily (in my defense: tired evening) and more seriously, hoping my experience will be like that once I finally get one.
20 characters of same here. Had a non functioning speaker at arrival thou, but tightening the screws of the board fixed that.
