yeah, no issues with pitch bend or anything here

i did have a bit of an eye roll moment when i heard they had implemented the same pitch bend for the xy as on the opz as it was not the nicest input method being rather stiff and eventually it stopped working. Id rather just use the gyro…speaking of which…is it more than single axis? Then again only one mod destination right so whats the point?

Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of punch in effects? I saw a comparison between the Z, and the XY but it didn’t fully explain it to me. Some are definitely clearer than others!

Not that this will help you immediately, but that section in the manual is coming.

Still trying to figure out if Brain will transpose keyboard inputs in real time from the manual or videos. The signal flow shows a direct pipe from keyboard to the synth/sample engines, while brain is linked via the sequencer route. To me this reads as: can transpose sequencer, won’t interfer with keyboard input. Also, it seems that grouping like on the omx-27 or the elektron boxes is not a thing on the xy. This would be great as it would allow for more “range” with few keys. With 14 keys on the “naturals” it would allow for nearly two octaves in grouped mode (ionian, dorian, phrygian…) or even more for limited scaled (e.g. Pentatonics).
I am confused. And tempted. But mostly confused.
Was just watching a video on this and it seems you can do it in realtime using the Link feature if I am understanding your question correctly:

Yes, without a doubt you can transpose with brain in realtime by hitting keys.

I think from how they phrased it they’re curious about the other way around
External MIDI being conformed to the scale set by Brain. Like some of the scale quantize modes in other gear.
Rather than using external keyboard in place of the integrated keyboard
I just hooked up a Digitone to the XY via USB. It receives clock, midi, and also sends audio to the XY, all over a single USB cable. Pretty rad stuff.

This is wallet-threatening information.
Indeed. Question is, more precisely: Can I set (or detect) a scale and record keyboard inputs INTO the sequencer being confined to the chosen scale? It does not seem that way. Yet, maybe linking from an empty track, using manual setting of scale, to another track for improvising will work, assuming that this linked track can be recorded.
EDIT: I guess I should just learn scales

The fact that different track patterns/scenes can have different instruments opens up the possibility of having a full live set list on the XY. If they would allow different tempos per scene would be perfect (although might get wonky as scenes can be any patterns, not row by row).

Playing the same phrase at different tempos is a pretty common compositional trick, no?
Might not be all that wonky. Incidentally the absence of tempo changes is a bit of a hangup in my view. But tbf lots of sequencers are stuck with the one tempo per project

My trick to successfully ignoring products with these features has always been telling myself it’ll get in the way of furthering my music theory.
Unfortunately in reality they are usually just helpful in expanding it

Just did my first jam with OP-XY. I’m still learning it… about halfway through making this I figured out there was an undo function that would have been great to know before. Oh well. I have traveled for years with the OP1F but it was always a sketchpad. The XY is completely different, but I also think I could finish songs on it. Really loving it so far. I do feel the synths on the OP1F are stronger, but I tend to make heavily sequenced music, so the XY fits me better there.

New OP-XY owner as of today. I’ve upgraded to 1.0.9. It’s my first TE product so I’m slowly working through how the sequencer works. In the printed quick start guide, on the “sequencer” page, it reads “holding a note will show all the steps that have that note recorded to them”.
I can’t find any mention of this in the online manual though, and so far as I can see, this isn’t actually the case - holding down a note doesn’t show me all the steps that have that note on them.
It seems like it would be a really useful function though, especially on a drum track which can get pretty crowded, with many notes on the same step.
Am I missing something, or doing something wrong, or is this something that’s not been implemented yet?

Hold a note, then hold record. Keep just record held down and you can then just see that notes lane for sequencing

you can also lock this view in!
press and hold the note + rec + shift + and any step in the sequencer lane then release them all
to exit this view press and hold the note + rec + shift then release

To those who are already in receipt of the xy, do you know if the audio tracks can be reassigned? It says how they are set up by default but I can’t find anything saying whether they can be changed (which implies they can’t). For example could you set up with 8 drum sampler tracks? I’m thinking like elektron boxes where different machines can be set to different tracks. I guess the synth tracks can be set up with sounds however you want so that’s self evident but I’m thinking more of setting up more drum tracks and/or samplers.
This seems like an obvious query so I’m amazed I haven’t worked this out from forums/manual/videos

You can have as many drum or synth tracks as you want. But… here is the cool thing: you can switch the kits and synths with every pattern variation you do on every track. So as you could, on track 1, do a pattern with kit X, then have kit Y on pattern 2, and on pattern 3 it could be a synth part. Loads of potential.
