Oh really ? Well then I have the out of date version with the guy looking at his laptop on stage for “perform” instead of the Da Vinci pose stickman, and the weird little spark and down arrow as the last step components instead, thanks for the info !

No problem! I’ll be honest, I’m SUPER curious to know if the icons are the only design changes or not, but my cursory search has turned up little. In honesty, if I could just ready about the design and general build (from software to parts sourcing) of MOST TE projects, but they aren’t as open about that at times.

I like my OPZ (I like it a lot actually !) but I’m really not a fan of TE as a company.

Their customer service can be… lacking…

This post Teenage Engineering OP-Z has an OP-Z with the original icons (I thought the flash had gone, but it seems to still be there), and I don’t think the change matters much, but I’m still curious if anyone has heard of any other change/difference.

I haven’t had a chance to check, so maybe someone can fill me in: When using the OPZ USBC, do you have to choose EITHER Midi in/out or audio in for sampling? Or can you do both simultaneously?

You can do both simultaneously. It’s great because you don’t get that usb noise when using the usb c alongside the audio out jack.

But in my case there is a caveat… The usb disconnects from my Mac as an interface from time to time if the z is moved. Which unfortunatly is probably going to make me purchase the opz lab as well to solve it.

Hmmm… Thats an interesting issue. I don’t think I’ve had that problem with the OPZ, tbh… But I love that I could do the audio out that way.

Now, I guess I’m a bit curious, can you do Audio in/out AND midi in/out all simultaneously? Does that only work with a computer, or could you pull that off with a norns?

No doubt an interesting issue. I wonder if a different usb c cable can fix it. This gap between the body and the unit has me wondering if I can somehow scooch it over a touch somehow. The usb cable has the slightest vertical wobble which I think is causing the issue. That tiny gap may be causing the usb to not be fully seated maybe.

The manufacturing tolerances on the OPZ have left a little to be desired in my book. I have a slight bulge in the backplate of my unit. I’ve heard that this flexibility in the back plate was to allow for any manufacturing tolerance issues with the OP-Lab modules, but its still slightly disappointing at that price point. Your issue seems incredibly frustrating, but maybe you could correct it with another wire, as you mentioned.

A friend of mine and I were talking about realized that the next modules could allow for 4 1/8 audio jacks, both in and out to allow for a wider range of audio in/out and sampling options. I had not realized how much I would adore a line in port (or multiple line in’s) until my friend had his a-ha moment. And yea, I get the feeling that this is probably already been a forgone conclusion by many. Hahaha.

Yeah I totally agree on all fronts.
All in all I’m happy but really wishing I didnt save a few bucks going with a second hand unit.

But, I’m lucky when it comes to warping and the knobs working fine. No issues at all minus I’ve had a couple crashes and lost some stuff but nothing massive. I just noticed this usb problem and I need to experiment more. It doesn’t seem to disconnect the midi, just the audio portion. But I will say I was mainly using this as a controller until recently. I’m currently experimenting with hard panning tracks left and right and running them through my euro.

Having issues getting Unity and Videolab work on my macbook. Not getting Klak assets after following the install instructions on git. Saw that @shellfritsch seems to have it up and running(on instagram) Any pointers on how to get it to work?

yeah i just tried a fresh setup the other day and i couldn’t get the assets to show either…

fortunately i still have a videolab install i set up a while ago on an older version of unity (2018.2.20f1) so i’m using that for now. maybe getting an old copy would be a temporary solve for you?

i’ll check in with the TE devs and see if they are aware of this issue.

well, that seemed to work here as well.

Unity 2018.2.20 + videolab 1.1

Who here is using the Z in conjunction with Norns? I have a norns coming soon and was curious how y’all are using them together

I’ve used it a bit in a few different ways. 1 is that you can send midi back and forth. So, I’ve used things like meadow physics and Dunes with its synth engines I’ve midi clocked the Norns and OPZ to use it with mlr in a more quantized and controlled fashion. I’ve used the OPZ to generate sounds behind Orca (pushing the OPZ Sound in to softcut so you only hear the OPZ sound in the background of Orca, processed and triggered through softcut) these are just a few of the things I’ve explored. It’s just nice to have easy, portable access to backing beats and synth engines coming through your inputs.

Oh very cool! Is it possible to sync the op-z/norns clock easily?

EXTREMELY! It’s wonderful. Just plug it in, norns sees it as a midi device (some patches require OPZ to be in the first Midi device slot), and you’re good to go. In the iOS app of the OPZ, you can decide if you’re doing clock in or clock out. Some patches on the Norns have only clock out. Some let you choose clock in or out. It’ll be dependent. But it’s a very quick setup.

is midi clock working for you on the latest version of the op-z firmware? it wasn’t working for me, i’m running the previous release right now.

I recognize you from the beta forum. hello

Yeah the last firmware has been a little iffy with midi via usb. hopefully those kinks get worked out soon.
