Btw, an indispensable tool I’ve been using with the OP-Z is this rung/tip splitter. This way I can get track CV and knob CV out to the rack of bother gate and CV ports. Gives two bits of encoder control. I believe you can automate those encoders on the CV track. Could be wrong:

Does this work? Are we able to use step components with cv by assigning a channel to output midi on ch14?

Yes. I just routed the snare track to midi channel 14 and it works.

What a wonderful discovery!

Android app for OP-Z is here! Find it at Google Play

That’s such a big news!

I have an incredibly stupid question:

I’m trying to get my OP-Z to clock (but not necessarily control) an Electribe 2 and a Shared System. How should I set up my oplab module to have one midi clock out and one modular lever clock out? I’m sure it’s something simple but I just get confused every time I tried to do it.

i think the oplab module uses the same jack for midi output and analog clock output, so if you want to use the midi output, you can’t use the analog clock output at the same time. you’ll have to use the gate out port and sequence in your clock on the module track (track 14).

Ah but I should be able to just do a trig on steps 1, 5, 9, and 13 and that should be okay right?

Yup. That’s what I’ve done.

Has anybody been able to assign LFO’s to both CV 2 encoder and CV 3 encoder (using the ring/tip splitter)?

the internal LFOs do not transmit midi cc data, so they cannot be sent to the module cv outputs.

Well shucks. I was hoping I could assign LFO data to those ports. That would’ve been very cool.

Honestly, that seems odd that I can’t assign LFO to that encoder, since that would be the same as just automating or applying an LFO to param 1 or 2 in any other instrument track.

i agree, it’s a bummer. but the op-z is seeing consistent development of new features, so maybe we’ll see some CV LFOs at some point…

speaking of regular development: new synth engines and fx were announced today! so happy with the new reverb - i love the classic op-1 style spring reverb, but this new one is nice and mellow and perfect for ambient stuff.

i guess TE has had some problem with their backend and shared these steps to get the new plugins working:

  1. Restart the app
  2. Remove new plugs from all tracks and press “commit”
  3. Add the plug again
  4. Restart your unit and you should be good to go

also heard that for a while the new reverb unit was accidentally the old reverb - not sure if that’s been remedied yet.

Oh dang! New synth engines and FX are amazing! Well yeah, hopefully soon we’ll get some LFO’s. I guess then I will get something like DivKid’s new Ocht or something.

One OP-Z thing I’ve been enjoying lately is using the Track Link feature for sound design purposes. Essentially, I’ll link multiple tracks via MIDI and use each to create different layers of one more complex sound.

One recipe I’ve been enjoying:

  • FM organ on Chords track, long release time, LFO to pitch for warble, run into some Reverb or Chorus
  • Analog engine on Lead track, keeping things nice and plucky

Layered, they give the sound a very bright 80s vibe. Having fun experimenting more with the OP-Z as a sound design tool!

This is a really cool idea. Might be a neat way to mash up samples in the synth engine tracks too. I want to try linking a track to the CV track. Looking forward to a chance to try these things out!

Hello ! Here’s a second try with the Z recorded on tape !
