Cool idea! I forget, do you link tracks only when playing live or do you sequence tracks that are linked

I was under the impression that it is a MIDI link, so regardless of whether it is played by hand or sequenced it should link. That being said, I haven’t actually been able to get it working for sequences  I’m wondering if it’s a current firmware version bug? The manual isn’t 100% clear on whether it should work, but I feel like I recall sequencing links working when I first got my OP-Z.

Update:

playing and triggering the original track will now also trigger linked tracks.

Actually never mind, this kind of sounds like it should work when sequenced (ā€œtriggeredā€). Maybe it is a bug.

Hey, anybody sending program change messages out of the opZ?

Im trying to get this to work with my little deformer. So far its working but I am unable to select the pattern that I want to. The manual on the deformer says I need to send program change on CC32 and then its a 1 for preset bank A, 2 for bank B etc etc…

How do i get this to work?
Right now when I switch patterns on the opz it all happens within bank A so how do I change this.

Busted out the zed today after many moons with the intention of getting it cleaned up to sell it. Got it updated with the new engines and now I don’t want to sell it

Cool tracks, both of them. I recently got back into my opz too. Had been neglecting it for months.

I had the same issue, loving it again! Thanks to both of you for sharing those tracks

weirdly i also picked mine up for the first time since maybe december? this week. just discovered a cool tip:

–step components can be placed on the negative space of a sequence (unlit keys)
–while the sequencer is playing back, any incoming/active note on messages are affected by the step components as if they’re active on that step.

so for example, i’m feeding chords into the arp track from ableton to get some arps. if i dial in ā€œmultiplyā€ step components on several steps and then set step 16 to ā€œjump to randomā€, i get an arp that’s playing the appropriate notes following the chord progression at the right times, but which switches to doubletime a random amount of times in a random order, turns into a kind of rhythmic ornament. a million other possibilities?

Both tracks are really really good, you really make amazing use of the machine.

Thank you, it’s really an amazing little instrument that can do so much.

I’ve been loving the new EP engine. Super simple sequence using the new engine + onboard reverb/delay and sampled into cranes.

@ypxkap just stumbled upon the empty space step component thing the other day, but have yet to put it to use.

@ludvista29 yeah tha EP engine is super cool. That and the new reverb from not too long ago are my favorite things recently added.

OPz is my favorite step sequencer (Nerdseq=favorite tracker); the step components and master track are awesome!

here is another opz jam:

Hey, I’ll give this a try on my LD2 later today, will let you know if I discover anything or if it works for me.

Messing around with the EP engine on 4 tracks heavily utilizing random component and trigger sparks on every step

Another op-z recording, this time focusing more on tape track and performance gestures.

loving this newfound love for the OP-Z! It seems to get a lot of developer attention in Stockholm during these lockdown times, so I think we will get at least a new update pretty soon.

nice work!

I have yet to figure out how to make anything good using the tape track.

i do wish it and most of the performance tracks had a few more options (well really just two things, i wish step components worked for performance tracks and i wish the tape track worked like a send with dry/wets for each channel instead of toggles) but i have had a lot of fun with it anyway. the key for me to finding a use for it was immediately disabling it for all but one or two elements. once i got into the habit of doing that i was able to create happy accidents with it somewhat frequently

maybe that’s obvious idk

yea i’d also love to see like a very straightforward demonstration of tape track functionality. its never been clear to me. i’ve fiddled with it, but have never managed to use it with full intentionality.
