@WintersNight my new unit exhibits no warble, and I’ve checked it by recording pure tones - that’s how I knew my old unit did have a defect (the warble was only perceivable on some material). So there are functional units out there.

I should say that ‘no warble’ is clearly subjective in itself - I have not done scientific tests but am confident that any warble that is in my new unit is in no way significant.

The warble that was in my old unit was minor (yes, subjective) and NOT present in the recorded audio - just when playing it back with motor on. So their recording smoothing algorithm is working to some extent.

I think there are a spectrum of units - from ones with actual mechanical faults (clicking, grinding) through ones that could do with some fine tuning through to ones that have it right. A better QAQC process would help TE for sure, though maybe units change with time also.

Had the TP-7 for about a week, and been trying to find alternate uses for it. I used to love old audio sample cds and sample tapes, so I’ve been slowly going through some sample sets I’ve got, and converting them into different extended tracks in Ableton Live and then copying them over to the TP-7.

To fit everything on the small display I’m basically naming tracks like <2 Character Sample Kit Code><3 Character BPM><Bass|Drums|FX|Instruments|etc…>. Been a blast scrubbing through rapid fire loops and sounds to then sample off into other gear for further manipulation.

Have a great day everybody!

This would automatically take it up to a different level. Also, to that point - is there a way to monitor yourself before you actually start recording on the track? Once you arm the recording button to overdub, the track stops until you engage the recording

I’ve been enjoying my TP7, capturing more than I’ve ever done. I’ve also transferred all my own tracks to it from last couple of years - so it’s become my own little sound storage device. Somehow much more enjoyable to listen to it all with a wheel gently spinning than via my phone.

I’m taking it away for a holiday and wanted a case - as tempting as the TE bags (field small and/or field accordion) are I couldn’t justify the cost and the delivery time would have been too long to receive on time anyway…after a bit of research I snagged one of these: https://amzn.eu/d/dvJrhWY

I wanted something as small as possible that would provide a bit of protection but yet easily fit in a pocket. It fits the TP7 (and TX6) very well. Room for a cable in pocket. Much cheaper too.

I do wish TE would hurry up with some new firmware - it’s great but I feel there is loads more they can add that would be fun (just look at the TX6!).

i wouldn’t underestimate that accordion bag. i just recently caved and bought it. for me, it was a solid decision.
pair it with the strap (i wear it cross body) i’ve got my tx6, tp7, cm15 all there at the ready. it’s got enough room to leave the adaptors plugged in and close the top cover. also has enough space to hold four 1/8" cables, two usb c cables, an extra adapter and usb c drive. i threw another one of the smaller field bags on the strap as well just in case there’s any extras i wanna carry like; audio splitters, longer 1/8" cables, extra adaptors, etc.

That’s a great setup! I haven’t heard about anyone actively using the strap in the real world, love it. I also think the accordion bag is very usable and am glad I got one

Yeah, I think I will grab one when back. It might make me buy a CM15 also though

Cuckoo just confirmed that he is testing a new TP7 firmware update in the comments of his latest IG post (the one with the tp7)

Ooooo… I hope it includes more MIDI control/looping…

does anyone know of any good comparisons or tech details comparing the TP-7 to other portable high-end music players? Curious how it stacks up in that regard.

I have an A&K SR35, which is their low-end premium audio DAP.

The audio quality seems to be the same with both, at least to my tin ear.

The SR35 is a little smaller in width and length, but thicker in height. It has a real display, so you can browse genres, albums, and so forth. It runs Android, actually, although you only know that if you’re using one of the APKs they support like SiriusXM.

It also has both balanced and unbalanced outputs, and an additional amplifier.

For audio playback / causal listening, I much prefer the SR35. It supports more formats, and the UI for browsing is much, much better. I find the TP-7 to be good for sequential playback of a few things (I’ve queued up the stuff I’ve mastered but not released that needs additional listening), but I definitely wouldn’t use it as a general audio player. The UI’s just not built for it for what I want out of one.

thank you for your perspective! that definitely makes sense.

This may be a silly question, but would the TP-7 be able to power some sennheiser HD600 headphones? I’m looking for some decent headphones to mix with and I’m curious if i could use them with the TP-7 without an amplifier, if you had any idea!

Yes, I just tested with 300 ohm Senn hd600 and the TP-7 sounds great from the main output (the one with the 3.5mm to 1/4" adaptor), no amplifier needed. I also use the TP-7 regularly with Beyerdynamic DT1990 pros without amplification.

oh boy oh boy, thank you! looks like some hd600’s are in my future!

A glimpse of a looper that is obviously coming to TP7. Will be interesting to see what else is in the update. Personally a looper is of little interest but I’d like some better midi/sync capability, editing ability and tape styles also.

Time will tell I guess

Looks like Nick dropped his unit on the corner of the record button…

looked like he was looping on a single track and then messed with the other. slowed it down and reversed?
i can see the looper being handy for recording/overdubbing a single part. but yeah, for me personally. it really does need the midi functionality improved along with audio detect for triggering record.

Seems to be some sort of tape delay going on as well?

The tape delay is definitely intriguing! I could get excited about the looping too, especially if the individual tracks can have loops with different lengths.

Especially if it’s a frippertronics style delay!
