thanks for investigating further. sorry to kind of derail the thread here (maybe it could move to a norns support thread). but compressor is off, the out, in, engine, and tape levels are at “unity”. I’m not using the extra 6db and I keep that as headroom generally (even when it distorts it’s not so loud).

gonna do the update soon (the one requiring a re-image) so will try with a clean and fresh system.

I haven’t noticed any problems with my Fates. Sometimes and depending on the script I decrease the gain from the Fates to avoid saturation.

Hi, has anyone noticed any strange behavior when the TX is turned on? Since I have a flash disk plugged into it, sometimes I get a strange sound when I turn on the TX. When I turn it off and on it goes away. All channels sound weird when it happens, like a strange filter. I don’t know if it’s a bug with the flash disk, I’ve never had this before and now it’s happened to me 3 times but I can’t reproduce it. It happens on startup the first time, that’s all.

i have noticed this before! i couldn’t figure out a reliable repro method. it doesn’t happen supper often, seeming only on the first start-up after being off for a while. i’ve also had this happen with just a usb-c cable plugged in (the other side of the cable wasn’t plugged into anything).

Thank you for your feedback. As I said it’s sticking with the flash disk connection, I’ve never had that before. It must be a minor bug. I’ve contacted TE and we’ll see what they say.

Hello everybody.

Experiencing some strange behavior tied to playback from the thumb drive and curious to know if anyone here has experienced the same:

Sometimes when I’m playing a track back that was recorded onto the drive, the playback will start to stutter and eventually just stops altogether.

What’s odd is that the next day it’ll play back just fine.

I had this happen two days ago. Then yesterday I recorded a new piece onto the thumb drive and last night listened to the new piece and the older one on there several times each. No issue.

Tonight I wanted to give them a listen again and neither track makes it longer than a minute or two and then crashes out.

I have not tried another thumb drive yet. I’m using a Samsung usb 3.1 drive (one that was suggested further up in this thread).

Anyone else experiencing this?

i have not experienced the same so i’ll bee curious to know whether it’s a widespread issue…have you connected the drive to a computer to see if the problem persists?

i at least hope you can salvage the tracks before reformatting the drive

Thanks for getting back to me. For whatever reason this was eating at me all night…I should be thankful to have such quality problems in my life. Haha

So I’ve been testing this morning and now am pretty sure it’s the drive, not the TX-6.
When I inserted the drive into my laptop and tried to copy the files over the finder window closed and threw an odd error.

I reconnected it a second time to the laptop and this time was able to copy the files over with no issue…so I’ve now reformatted and am going to test some more.

Going to record some more stuff soon and see what happens…and if the problem persists I’ll try another drive. I’ve got one around here somewhere but can’t find it for the life of me.

The Rode powered mics work well with +20 dB gain straight out (and quiet!). I have a shotgun so the stereo image isn’t great, but their newer field mic with this preamp looks pretty sweet for a nice image.

I have mine setup on an external cold shoe rig I had for an old DSLR - works well with a cheap Manfrotto phone mount.

Question:

anyone got tips on setting up gain structures with the TX-6? I was recording a bunch of different level line outs from various synths the other night and got mixed results. Could be I was being lazy but I found it quite difficult to be confident of what level to set things at:

I was using 12ch mode, recording in on channel 1/2
Metering on the channel and the output screen meter was fine (ie the same) but
metering on the record input wasn’t anywhere near that, seemed like ~75%
is there something I’m missing?

I think the solution is planning scenes. Assuming you’ll have a few different setups and need to switch between them easily. Other than that, it’s a manual process like with any mixer? I might not understand how to answer the question regardless

Ok I sorted one issue out - in the disc record screen you can turn the main control encoder and it adjusts the level that the mix is attenuated into the recording. Mine was set low (like around 75%) so hence the lower output on the recorded files.

This doesn’t seem to be documented on TE’s TX6 manual/guide

Thanks for this info. I had actually completely missed this as well and just figured it was always recording at…100% the set fades level? Not sure if that’s expressing it correctly, but yeah this is excellent to know.

My issue with recordings sometimes getting glitchy on playback still persists so I need to get another thumb drive and see if I can replicate the problem. If the glitching still shows up I’ll try to return the unit for a replacement.

What I find so odd is that it only happens sometimes. So I’m also trying to see if I can determine whether there’s some other possibly-contributing factor (like, did I turn the unit on with the thumb drive already inserted vs. inserting it after power up?).

Regardless, I’m still madly in love with this amazing little device.

I had bugs with the flash disk plugged into the TX. Try to turn on and then plug in the flash disk. I get weird noises sometimes because of this, like a kind of filter and noise on all tracks.
