Regarding the turntable - I picked up the Frekvens set at the IKEA in Emeryville, CA about a week ago and they didn’t have the turntable anywhere to be found. Asked the staff about it but they didn’t know anything about that part of the product line. I’ve only heard rumors both that they were going to completely axe it from Frekvens and also that they might be releasing it later. Kind of feel like at this point, since they have released the products at some IKEA locations and it was a limited run, that they won’t go and later sell a single followup product so it probably got cut from the line.

About stock and release dates - it seems like some IKEA stores in California received the collection in inventory. It appears that they weren’t supposed to put it out until February where it’s launching most places. This timeline for Feb, seems like what’s going to happen in Europe. Maybe the stores in the US missed the memo that it was a limited release or simply wanted to put it out on display early so it dropped at these IKEA locations ahead of other stores. It seems like each IKEA store only got a small number of inventory for each SKU in the Frekvens line.

After a @TomWhitwell tip off that these were already in IKEA Greenwich (London) I picked up the big one with a sub last night. What really swung it for me was just how practical it was. Aux in/out, bluetooth, battery powered, you can break it apart if you want something smaller. I plugged an old echo dot into the Aux in, and it’s essentially a smart speaker straight away.

It sounds pretty good. The 10x20 small one on it’s own it much like any run of the mill bluetooth speaker. It’s very thin sounding. But with the sub, it’s much more balanced and actually does a better job of presenting the top frequencies than more “tuned” hifi speakers.

It was very had to judge in the shop as the shelf it’s on just resonated so much it was impossible to know what was going on. So it was a bit of a leap of faith.

Overall, I’m happy. I’ll plug it into a small jamming system in the next couple of days, and see how it fairs with that too.

I bought the 10x20 which is nice for it’s intended use (in the kitchen) - can also be used with a battery pack which might be good. I also have the little £20 cigarette packet sized speaker which is very cute for Pocket Operators.

Oh wow do they still have them in? If so I may drive in tomorrow.

Did they have the full range?

They did have the full range.

There wasn’t a lot of it, and it was just plonked in the middle of the market hall as an after thought.

I may risk driving in on Friday.

They had 16 of the 10x20 in stock when I visited last night (make sure you don’t accidentally take home a box that contains random spare parts left over by the shopfitter, like I did…)

Got mine today. The sound is really good on the bigger one. Proper review to follow with images.

Went to Ikea Lakeside. They had none out j had to ask. Only the lights and speakers, the jackets etc I couldn’t find. I may try again next week.

They have them at IKEA Wembley UK, in the market place.Bought the speaker and an LED last night.

There are a bunch in the Conshohocken, PA IKEA now. I got a 6x10 and immediately took it apart. There’s a little room for activities, but it would be pretty tight. I was hoping I’d be able to fit a Teensy 3.2 in there, but I don’t really see how, unfortunately.

I picked up one of the wee $20 Frekvens speakers, and it’s AWESOME. I’m going to grab another and use them as little stereo speakers for my Norns.

I’ve been using it on my microfreak (sorry, i’m a dork) and it’s been pretty great. :+1::+1:

Real question because it’s an ikea thing : how does the small speakers compare to their Eneby line offering? It seems pretty close in terms of feature set.

I wonder if the ‘VANSTA’ black is as black as vantablack, that’d be pretty epic.

this is really not scientific but i like the frekvens speakers a lot better than the eneby speakers. everyone generally seems to like the eneby speakers but i wasn’t so into them, i returned mine after trying them out. i found them to be just generally random quality like all the other speakers in that price range. but the frekvens with the subwoofer sounds way better quality to my (untrained and uninformed) ears.

Visited my local DC IKEA today and got a few photos of the whole FREKVENS display.

This was the second display in the store - another much smaller one in the lighting section had just the speakers and accessories, as well as a few pillows and covers I ended up getting another wee speaker and the one without the subwoofer.

Didn’t seem to have any in Glasgow yesterday.

Anyone picked up the disco lights? How are they?
