Yes, I feel the very same. Also it still looks somehow wrong. I liked it better in the upper half of the screen with the two empty lines below it - as it was in the very short video of yesterday:

If we’re keeping the toggle, should the display default to on or off?

I would say default to ON.

I would say switching an additional monitor / feature ON feels more logical then disengaging it - so default to OFF.

I would say that is only if the assumption is that the intended design does not include this feature.
So, in my mind, the default setting sort of “communicates” whether the design in it’s most optimal form includes this feature or not.

But, honestly, I am cool either way.

Yes, I might be a bit pedantic - we could make it configurable in the beautiful new config menu.

Exactly: once there is a Config menu, then a new, important level of “customizing” the TT environment is available.

I agree with the sentiment, that we should not suddenly have everything configurable, but as the TT grows, I think users should be able to make some Config decisions.

annoying late-stage alt-styling proposal:

        5 A 999 X
      842 B 0 Y
       -2 C -1000 Z
   -16000 D 2600 T

jury’s out still on the hotkey and config menu, will stew on it

I am in the defaults to off camp. Assuming a hotkey, of course.

i think i prefer this!

Love it. I’ll wait for @laborcamp’s mock-up and bang it out.

Want to see a line between the variable and the name?

I would expect the header/variable name on the left side of the value but I see that it won’t fit with right aligned numbers. I think this version makes me read it from right to left when I am after a specific variable which seems a bit odd. I’d prefer the other version with variables above the value.

When there are values in the variables, the lines seem unnecessary. But when the variables have no values, they look “off to the right”. I do like this most recent layout though. Inclined towards no lines, personally. The visual clutter bothers me more than any sense of “off-center”.

Another idea: don’t try to center this. Left-justify it.

A 1234 X 1234
B 1234 Y 23444
C -1234 Z -120
D -120 T 1234

Now, looking on a screen mock up with different brightness grades for variables and values I like this one too. I think the version without dotted lines might fit better with the icons. Also the lines make it look like a stream like in tracker view, which it is not.

So I’d vote for the left picture.

EDIT: Having the variables on the left side as @jasonw22 suggested would make the whole block easier to center on the screen.

Could you try the line between the label and the value, but keep the original justification?

Looks like people like this. If you can annotate the offsets, I’ll mock it up in code!

@sliderule was this final version implemented?
If so: is there a .hex file for it?
