Beautiful. This is all so very exciting.

Quick question about oscillator mode (sorry if I missed this elsewhere): is this suitable for LFO duties? In particular, can it be used for super slow (non-zippery) sine wave modulation?

Stoked!

Nice uniformity!

Initially i wanted just a set of the panel and pcb each for the txi and txo to diy, am wondering if there are enough of the panel and pcb to have 2 set each instead?

in terms of firmware i’m still trying to figure out some potential issues with envelopes (which could be due to the changes i made to my local firmware code). my intent is to give this top priority and spend the next few nights working on this to save @bpcmusic’s time.

in the meantime it’s hard to stop playing with the expanders - here is a quick concept test, using ansible/teletype as a chord sequencer. pattern banks are used to store chord notes, variable A determines which chord is played and variable B determines the root note. M script reads values from ansible levels 1&2 with the help of TXi and uses them to set A and B, so levels becomes a chord sequencer. TXo is simply used as a quad oscillator:

So, so cool.

Forgive me if it’s mentioned above and I can’t find it, but can you provide any details about oscillator mode of the TXo? I.e., how many wave shapes, and/or any other parameters that are available?

sine / triangle / saw / pulse / noise. you can set freq/note in a variety of ways, and you have options for slewing / rectifying / LFO. you can see the full list of what’s available here:

Apologies for not being very attentive. How might I acquire and/or build these modules?

Holy cow that’s brilliant, especially with the envelope and virtual VCA functionality listed below. I thought of that, but figured I wouldn’t even ask; pie in the sky type stuff.

So what we’re looking at here is the possibility of a Teletype, with the expanders, becoming effectively a stand alone polyphonic, multitimbral voice.

Or am I getting carried away?

Of course, me getting to grips with the scripting aspect is an entirely other issue.

Awesome!

How slow can you go and not sound stepped/zippery?

Sigh, I’ve got GAS now.

Teletype, with the expanders, becoming effectively a stand alone polyphonic, multitimbral voice.

That is also the promise that Just Type has yet to deliver.

pretty much. and you can select each channel’s function individually so you could have any combination in between. you could, for instance, have 2 voices with additional CV or envelope for a filter.

not sure - this is more of @bpcmusic question!

Absolutely. Right now, you can set LFO in Millihertz (103Hz). Slower values will be available in the next firmware update I do; right now you can do as low as 1mHz (.001 Hz) . The waveform should be super-butter-smooth as it is interpolated in most all use cases.

Check it out at 125mHz (as slow as I could get O’Tool to draw the waveform):

Sure; updated your allotment.

Holy crap that was awesome!! Made my day. Thx for all the help on this project. Sincerely appreciated.

In short - PM me. I’ve closed out the reservation list - but might have enough wiggle room to fit you in.

Yes - with a handful of basic waveforms + pulse width + rectification. This pushes the Teensy to its max, btw. The larger, but pin-compatible Teensy 3.6 has a lot of promise in regards to pushing the line even further. Just haven’t started experimenting yet.

I should note that there aren’t any complex alias reduction techniques at play; there just isn’t enough cycles left on the processor if we want four independent voices. So - waveforms with more harmonics generate even more harmonics, especially as they go up in frequency. Sine waves will always sound lovely - as they always do.

By the way, that video above (and the one below) are my initial test production units using all of the parts ordered for production and the new PCBs. So far, so good.

Enjoy the random positive and negative voltage tests:

:astonished:

My mind is officially BLOWN. Now you’ve got me thinking I need two TXos!!! Thanks for the follow-up and happy assembling!

a quick update on the envelope issue i mentioned above - found the cause (it was a specific sequence of commands) and it should be a quick fix!

Wow, the feature list of the oscillator section is absolutely stunning.

It’s looking fantastic, I was optimistic on capabilities/features but now its fairly way above on what I was expecting.
@bpcmusic In terms of availability, would be nice to get those modules in upcoming half year  no pressure, I just have to remember to reserve some hp in my rack
@scanner_darkly thanks a lot for your involvement and helping out

Now I’m almost sure that TT with expanders will be core/center pieces of my setup.
Awesome work guys

I’m so impressed with this I’ve told a bunch of people and they all want in
I’m sure I’ve ordered but if not can I please do so now but also suggest a different thread for orders?

Bwahaaahaahaha!! I’m working my tail off - shouldn’t be that long.

Appreciated; just checked and you are most certainly on the list. I did officially close reservations a few weeks ago, so I won’t be making a big production of soliciting more interested parties - though I’ve been able to squeak a few folks in here and there. Have ur pals PM me if they are interested and I’ll see what I can do.

Micro-Update

Finished up the test build last night of four production TX units (2xTXi + 2xTXo). The new build process, guides, stencil frames, parts, PCBs (from a new manufacturer), Pile-O-Teensy™, and panels (for the TXi) all checked out. BIG WHEW!!!

Here they are in a row - you can really see the difference between the two panels:

Balance of the Panels are due tomorrow. I’ll post shots when they are all together.

So - this is a green light for me to switch into full-on production mode. Remember, this is by hand, so there is a lot left to do. I’m going to start doing bulk SMD work this weekend and see how it goes. That is, if life cooperates. As always - I’ll post updates to this thread.

Totally brilliant!!! They look fantastic!
Yes I checked and I ordered but I want 2 of both if that’s ok?
