Do you have the two monome devices on separate tracks?

Yes. Sure. They are on two different tracks with Terms Step but they play partly the same.

Thanx for the hint. Could be the right idea indeed. How to?

Im probably wrong, but i think autofocus should be on and with the “track” on setting; so when you change the selected track in ableton the monome “focuses” on the monome device in that track.
Another option is to open the max devices and add — “3 dashes” but that can be tedious

Unfort. not the solution :frowning:

Hi,

Is there something like a scene number limitation on Launchd? Seems I can’t scroll through more then around 200 (ok it’s a long track) scenes on 128 using Nav button even if there are more clips in the session below. Would appreciate any help!

Thanks!

Ok it’s exactly 128 scenes - maximum I can play using Monome 128?

I just got max for live and downloaded the terms M4L package. I’m trying to use Flin, but my grid doesn’t show any activity. I re-downloaded serialosc on my computer and didn’t have any luck. Tried following the read-me, but the page is now non-existent
( http://monome.org/docs/app/terms ).

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I know that terms is pretty old now - is it not updated for Live 10?

hi! apologies for the readme redirect – I’ve added it to the docs todo list. were you directed to Terms from the Ableton site? thankfully the search bar up top of monome.org/docs still indexed it and it is correctly linked through the grid + computer applications list. here it is, in case you didn’t find it: https://monome.org/docs/grid/app/terms/

as far as serialosc troubleshooting, I’d encourage going through these steps to make sure serialosc is working beyond terms: https://monome.org/docs/serialosc/setup/

feel free to email help@monome.org to troubleshoot!

Sounds good. I found it through the search bar. I’ll give it a shot!

Edit: That did it. Thanks!

I have looked and have seen similar topics, but many different kinds of answers. Essentially I’m running The newest Ableton 9.6.1 64 bit with the latest Mac OS 10.11.4.

I’m getting the monome to work in Live, although it’s not recording midi events. I’ve seen some people say you need to use another Max device, others have said they needed a library file… Just very confused how to proceed to have midi events record to Ableton. I’m primarily looking to use Terms, but would love to find more. It appears I can’t use Pages since its for 32 bit?

Thanks for any help!
Heath

this is the way ableton works. clip -> device chain. and since the m4l device sits in the device chain, it comes after the active clip of the channel. you need another midi channel and route the other channel to it (select the source in the input dropdown). then record there.

Thank you. Pretty simple solution. Funny as I have to do that to get Midi out of Reaktor, you’d think I would tried that with the monome.

On my monome 64, using flin the notes will go down the monome as expected, but I’m only seeing half the travel. (I.e. Lights will show for the first half, but the scone half of the duration the monome is blank. Almost as if it’s expecting 16 buttons vertically and not just 8.) is this normal?

And the device is showing “m64-0904 monome 64”

This is normal behaviour. The ‘fall distance’ is always twice the number of rows on your device.

I can’t say why it was designed this way (10 years ago!) but probably something to do with being easier to visualize the patterns as the grid is much more sparsely lit.

Weird, thanks for confirming that!

Hello all — quick/simple question:

While using a grid with Ableton live (via terms), how can one record the output of one’s sequencing, etc. to a MIDI track?

I ask this realizing that the grid communicates via OSC, but curious if this is possible in a general sense

To be specific, I’m speaking about a scenario I’ve demonstrated in this video:

You can see I’m using one of the MIDI effect terms utilities/sequencers, and when pressing “record”, no instrumentation is recorded to the track

Keep the midi devices on that track, but move Aalto to a second midi track. Enable recording on this second track, and set flin’s track as its input. Then record the midi from the first track into the second.

The problem is midi devices (terms or otherwise) take effect after clips on the same track, so cannot be recorded.

I was thinking about changing Terms-Launchd to use 128 in vertical orientation where I could have 15 scenes visible on one page. That would much easier for the performance I’m working. I have some basic max knowledge but if anybody would help me with this I would greatly appreciate. Or maybe somebody made such version already?

I would actually gladly PAY for an improved version of Terms’ clip launcher that adds stuff like copy clip or more shortcuts etc. but it seems like the monome ecosystem has been kind of moving away from M4L and Ableton in recent years (although @andrew suit of M4L devices alone is enough to make that statement absurd I know). But yes, I still do use my grid with Ableton on stage and I would love to have more control. It’s a thing with me that I just like the grid a whole lot better than any 64 pads controller on the market even Push, to control my session live (15 tracks visualization, small buttons instead of big pad which makes for one hand combo of multiple clips much easier, makes the overall state of the clips more readable etc.)

Yes would be great to see some more tweaks in clip launcher. I also prefer it much more than using 8x8 Push for performances. It makes more sense on monome! Right now I just would love to be able to change grid orientation but few more extras with clip copy and even stop all would be super
