Are you plugging your headphones directly into the Ciat Lonbarde gear?

IPad pro for sound sources, DAWs, visual stuff and procrastination
OP-1 for synths, tape and MIDI control
Zoom h4n for field recordings and iPad audio interface
Headphones for monitoring
(+ USB-C dongle and some audio cables)

All portable, all battery powered

ah i feel the answer to that question varies on a daily basis

for a travel kit like this i’d probably lean towards analog synthesis + signal processing to balance out the digital stuff.

Yes. Love mine.

Super minimal, Deluge and ā€˜phones.
Moderately minimal, Deluge, H4n Pro,’ phones.
Maximal minimal, Deluge, H4n Pro, 0-Coast (with battery), phones.

I like battery power!

I have been considering bring my deluge, but I find the internal synths so limiting and prefer the sample workflow of my octatrack/norns much more.

If I have enough space, octatrack + deluge could be so powerful as a portable setup…

thanks for sharing this. really like this idea for a little travel case. the rail insert seems to do the trick at least even if it’s a bit janky…?

I’m curious about:

  1. sound quality, maybe how it compares to others
  2. build quality
  3. iPad bus power?

Also, what are your use cases with it? Do you ever use it with multiple devices?

Personally I’d take my current iOS setup

iPad Pro
Lighting/USB camera adapter
Powered USB hub
Launchpad Mini Mk 2
Roli Lightpad Block M
Zoom U44
iPhone 6
Keith McMillen QuNexus
Sennheiser HD25SP headphones
Bastl Dude mixer
iPhone 4s & Tascam iM2 mic (field recordings)
Cables. Lots of cables

I might also take an 8" android tablet and phone

The only elements of the above that I don’t currently own are the U44 and a powered USB hub, but they will arrive next week

The internal synth is what you make of it… Obvs it’s not a Moog One but with a bit of time and effort you can get pretty good results!

If you have an OT and are plumbed into the workflow I’m not sure you’d gain loads with the Deluge. Battery power, the int synths, and a very different way of doing things, but that’s about all. OT plus Deluge seems overkill to me as they are both ā€˜do it all brains’ but I think that’s probably my bias.

How is the Bastl Dude, dude?

It’s sweet!

Seriously, I love it. I use it that much in my regular setup that I picked up a cheap power adaptor for it (although it’s far from heavy on batteries). The only remotely negative thing I can say about it is that the promo video showed some passive EQ modules that looked awesome but Bastl haven’t released those yet (which is hardly a negative about the Dude!)

Yeah, was interested in what they meant about the feedback generation with passive EQ. I just looked at the steps for their DIY kit… might be just over my soldering skill level as it is now.

I have done a few DIY projects and bought more with the intention of diving in further, but ultimately I realised that I have limited time to devote to music making and wrestling with solder only eats into that further. I bought the assembled unit (probably from Juno, although it could have been from eBay)

I’m really curious about the dude as well! I’ve been using a Mackie Mix 5, which is a nice size for a backpack, but the dude could reduce my travel size even further! I think the main thing I’d miss is stereo pan control, too bad there is no kit for a double dude. Maybe two could be hacked together, but the increased size would probably out weigh the benefits.

My minimal setup right now is a Lorre Mill Double knot, a multi-fx pedal, Mackie Mix 5, and sometimes my 54hp Zissou which is kitted out with a Teletype, Just Friends, Rung Divisions, Meng Qi LPG, WMD MMF, and WMD DPLR.

Looking for advice. I’d love another tiny companion synth to go with my Double Knot. Keyed Mosstone seems like a no-brainer (demos I’ve seen they play so nice together) but I was hoping to maybe get some left field suggestions for other contenders around the same price and size? 0-Coast is out of my price range, but I was also looking at the Bastl Softpop and love it’s liquid-y charm. Any ideas appreciated!

Not so much patching-wise, but I think the Volca modular would be a nice companion with it’s sync ports. And not so portable, but the Cocquantus always likes to play with the DK. And yes, Mosstone for sure. Softpop would definitely be fun.

EDIT: All of that said, when I had my DK, what I really wanted to pair it with was another DK!

this mixer ticked several of the tiny mixer boxes for me

And it’s resolved. Not minimal, but my setup is the following:

Deluge
Norns + Grid
Zoom H5 + Lom UŔi Pros + shotgun attachment
iPad
Minirig3
Leica D Lux 7 + compact flash
Cabling
… in a Pelican 1510.

This leaves me with a field recording setup, a camera/video setup, and sampling setup.

Parlour size acoustic guitar works for me.

Norns, Grid, and OP-1.

And cables and power. And a huge PA system. Possibly some lasers and a fog machine. And some gin.

Hey~

Leaving for Europe in two days, going to be traveling all around for about a year, going from country to country. I’m trying to theorize what I wan’t my ideal setup to be and was curious if there’s anyone else who has a nomadic sort of setup. I currently just have a MacBook Air. But looking to get a way to record sounds and mostly just want to make sound art and compositions with found sounds, maybe bringing in some small synths here and there.
