great thread, more talk about old samplers plzzzzz!zz

Love this… Great analogy!

Indeed… I was only recently recommending the specialist services of ā€˜The Don’ to a guy on another forum who has some bits of gear that’s in need of repairs.

One of my favourite ways to use my SP303 is to run breakbeats through it and to (somewhat) rhythmically mash the reverse and mark button to get edits/glitch effects on the loop.

That’s excellent - I’ll definitely give that a try. That mirrors how I work in Koala too, which I’m expecting to find more examples of (given how much the 303 was an inspiration for Marek when he made the app)

YES. If anything breaks on my 303 first it’ll be my mark button. i use it…liberally.

If any of you fellas who are posting in the thread here have links to any music you’ve made using the SP’s please put them up…I’m always on the look out for new sample based stuff and I’ll be more than happy to take a listen to them!..

The phono outs on the SP-303 are quite vulnerable, be careful not to walk in to your wires while it’s plugged in, or yank it otherwise. They might get damaged.

I owned the SP-303 and also later the SP-606. I wanted to get another SP recently but I went for the Zoom Sampletrak ST-224, which for all intents and purposes could have been part of the SP line. It’s set up the same way. But it has time stretch and chromatic playing of samples. Bit rates 32, 16, 8 which eight is awesome, especialy being able to tune it down for that real grit. Recommended.

My 303 is alive and stuff with smartmedia cards thanks to an eBay sale of an ancient (1.2 megapixels) digital camera which came with 4 cards for the princely sum of £13. The guy got his sale, I got my cards and in the morning the local charity shop will have an ancient digital camera to tempt buyers with

How ancient is it? Sometimes early digital cameras give an interesting quality to their photos. Kind of like old samplers

I came close to grabbing one of these myself a little while ago but the guy who was selling it decided to keep it in the end.

I’d definitely be interested in the possibility of adding one to my set up at some stage as I’ve heard good stuff thats been made using these machines by some of the members of another forum Im on and where these things have a bit of a cult following along with samplers like the Roland MS-1, Roland 202 etcetera.

It’s a Fujifilm MX-1200, if that means anything to you at all. I’d not considered that possibility - I’ll experiment with it!

Matt Rockwell had one for a while and said good things about his, only selling it to feed the effects pedal addiction that he picked up from some dangerous influence…

Yeah mine’s been broken around that area for about twenty years, phono outs are dodgy and the volume pot is stuck on a medium volume. Probably a few mins with the soldering iron could sort it tbf so thanks for reminding me!

Ras G passed away recently, I’ve also been enjoying his stuff lately. Huge talent gone too soon.

I’m blaming this thread for the rising prices of 303s…
