Yeah, you have to keep track of them yourself somehow. For me, not an issue… I’ve never really used presets or saved my own on anything.

I’ve been running entire modular mixes through this pedal over the past few days with the delay tuned to its shortest setting. The pedal adds a crunchy warmth which blankets all the harsher digital tones typically spewing from my modular. I feel good about it, I feel some high-cut action happening. Also, it’s v. tweakable in the event that special dub effects are desired. The momentary switch produces a pleasing wash of noise, dub-wise, at the settings I’ve been keeping it at. To conclude, I highly recommend this choice pedal for working with crisp, digital source material.

That’s sounding lovely. I have to admit, I’m contemplating switching out my El Capistan purely because I’m finding it irritating to have to access the secondary functions via doubling up on the primary ones. I tend to play my delay pedal and it’s harder to do that on the El Cap than it was on the Echo Dream etc.

Has anybody here used the MFB digital delay? It’s looking like a good option for the small system I’m putting together since it’s only 8hp and has a very wide time range, especially on the short end going down to 2 milliseconds.

I’ve seen multiple people disappointed with MFB’s general build quality though. Seems to mainly be that their knobs feel cheap though, which doesn’t bother me. I’m not sure if their stuff is actually any more prone to failing than other modules, which would bother me.

A new entry that looks looks interesting:

Hi! I am curious what type of delay you would buy today or looks the most promissing for you!
There have been some cool releases recently and i wonder if they can stand against the classics.
Key points for me are reliability, sound quality, stereo options, tweaking possibilities, soundrange & versatility, feature set, studio & live friendliness.
We’re only talking about delays you can currently buy and which will very likely still be supported in the next years.
No euro, rack units or software for now.

I liked the Strymon DIG very much for its various sound modes and the different dual delay capabilities. It was great together with the D-1000 like in this jazzy little thing:

I am not sure why I sold it and kept the Capistan - perhaps because I thought I’d definitely would need a tape delay. I think I was mistaken.

I forget the Mod Devices MOD Duo which is (like ZOIA) more a kind of workstation imo.

Yea, i left it out as i thought it’s a one trick pony.
But maybe i was wrong. I think Timefactor has dual delay modes aswell

To me the main point would be the beautiful sound of the DIG. Though there is a lot to tweak about the dual delay part and I would not call it more of a one trick pony than the capistan. Indeed it might be more flexible since tape is more distinguishable than the DIG’s digital flavours.

Eventide H9 Max and Valhalla Delay here, it’s all I really need for delay coverage. The H9 usually lives in the fx loop of my tube amp and sounds great there.

I have only tried and own El Capistan out of those alternatives and I like it. I have only used it as a end of the line device and never with cv. Is that even possible? :grimacing:

I use lexicon mx 400 in quad mono fx mode
So i have 4 in/out and lot of delays and reverbs

Where is OTO BIM? Love that delay.

I use mine with CV, scaled courtesy of an SBG. I’ve only tried it with expression set to time.

Another H9 lover. Between all the classic timefactor algorithms and the incredibly versatile UltraTap and SpaceTime delay/reverb/modulation hybrids it’s a pretty killer box. Strymon et al. can’t touch how far out it can get or how rapidly flexible and wide-ranging each algorithm gets. And with both MIDI and CV (1 input) modulation (multi-mappable) they integrate nicely into a variety of systems, including modulars.

If I was going off-list I might opt for Foxpedal’s The Wave which is outstandingly good.

this one’s really good

Have to agree the DIG is a great sounding delay. I use it for modular but it sounds superb on the 24bit setting with my minimoog - perfect clean repeats. The DIGs dual delay when paired with something like the Bigsky creates some really textural ambience. In fact perhaps this is the thing with the DIG - it pairs well. I found the Timeline (which I sold) with the Bigsky was all a bit complex. I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve with delay.

I recently bought the Line 6 HX Effects instead of the Stomp for when my pedal board is too much to carry. Maybe not as nice as the H9, but far more versatile. Sometimes I’ll chain two delays. The results can get you in some strange spaces.
