Ah yeah, that would make a difference. Well, still worth giving it a try again.

Of course. I believe you could use the esx as an fx unit with step automation. If you use two delays in parallel, you can have a 2 tap delay

Does someone have suggestions for a DIY delay with CV in for delay time? Eurorack, stompbox and desktop formats would all be fine. Bonus points if the delay time can go down to audio rates for Karplus-Strong action.

If iOS is an option, RE-1 slows down if you touch the graphic of the reels.

I agree and it is the closest thing I can find that is reasonably priced. No feedback loop for the delays, though. That seems to be the rarest feature in a digital delay for some reason.

Both of these look very interesting even if a bit overwhelming. Main downside is the massive real estate consumption for my relatively small euro cases.

Sure but now you can get a powered 4ms pod and voila!

You can put the delay in a feedback loop by running the delay full wet with only one echo (no internal feedback), taking the output, and mixing it back in with the input signal (the mix level determines the feedback). Since it’s relatively trivial to do if you really want to, I think that’s why a lot of vendors don’t provide it as a dedicated option.

Befaco crush delay is a good diy alternative. I believe Erica Synths has some diy delay as well.

That makes sense. So basically, you just need a mixer with an aux output and at least 2 channels?

20 characters of Correct! Actually you don’t even need the aux out. The main outs do double duty if that’s all the mixer is dedicated to (or you can use a submix in place of the aux, anything that isolates and combines the return and input - that signal is both the delay system output and its next input at the same time.). But having an aux will let you control both the wet/dry balance and the delay feedback ratio independently.

Looks like the Erica DIY BBD Delay/Flanger is closest to what I had in mind, thanks for the suggestions! Synth Diy Guy has a nice demo up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY8KSI1Ja8o

The Chronoblob 2 almost fits your description. In different modes it can either be mono with an open feedback loop or stereo without an open feedback loop, but not both at the same time.

Have you looked into the Instruō lubadh? Has a delay mode I believe.

Yes! Here’s a lil informal demo, but hopefully gives you an idea. Essentially, Meadowphysics is pinging individual channels on Just Friends. Meadowphysics clock out is sent to tap/exp in of the DD7.

I pulled 2 channels of JF, mixed to mono, and sent to the DD7 - which is returned into the mix in stereo. Remainder of JF channels are sent to the mix in mono. So, what’s happening with the delay is emphasized for the video. As always with these things, headphones are helpful.

Gradually messing with the delay’s mix and feedback levels, while live tweaking the time knob. Hope this helps!

This is great, thanks - I’ve had a DSD-3 for decades, but never really had anything to clock the trigger input with; now to try with a Temps Utile or maybe that ratcheted envelope Make Noise were demonstrating the other day for the 0-Coast…

Yes! And sometimes I’ll use one of the 8 outputs of Meadowphysics as my clock, then it effectively becomes a real time clock divider/multiplier via the grid

This is soooooo coooooollllll. I love this.

Having a little weigh up here with the 4ms dual looping delay vs chronoblob 2. The usual reply is it depends what you want to do with it. But i think electonic stuff doesnt really come from having definite intentions. Though I definitely want the option of a stereo path. Im more interested in where would each of these take me? As I cant afford either right now so it is a bit accademic.

There is a port of chronoblob 2 in VCV Rack if you want to get an idea of the functionality.
