Wondering if anyone had experience of the TipTop Echoz? Sounds good in the demo’s with lots of different modes. No mention of it here yet?

I had both, sold chronoblob 2… its a great delay, simple… DLD is just far more creative, lots of ways to patch it and the latest firmware made feedback patching awesome. DLD is very configurable as well…

would love to mess with a rainmaker or tapographic delay, probably love them even more…

Thanks- Im leaning that way too something about the layout just makes sense and a bit cleaner sounding maybe …

Does the 4ms have something similar to chronoblob’s tape vs fade modes? Being able to go back and forth between those modes are a big part of the fun with Chronoblob for me (I use the VCV version.)

Outside of that it seems like a big creative difference is the time scale they are tailored for (1/8th note to 3 mins for 4ms vs 5ms to 2.7 sec for Blob2), and the fact that the two channels have fully independent controls on the 4ms.

Then there’s the size (20hp v 12hp) if that matters…

I know you mentioned it but have you used a DLD? It’s pretty incredible and checks almost all your boxes. The only thing is I’m not totally sure what you mean by time stretch in the context of a delay pedal.

I’m not sure I’m up to date on my DLD’a firmware. What did they change to the way feedback works?

Yes this is it. These exact things take you different places - I suspect the crono having a bit more character in a strange way. Thanks for mentioning these differences.

@Zedkah Would you consider Mimeophon as well? If you don’t mind the curated macro controls approach (a plus in my book, but ymmv), it seems to do an impressive job of turning all the time scales and delay textures into continuous creative putty.

It’s a sore subject…

I had a DLD and used it quite a bit - not to its full potential, however. I sold it to fund something else… can’t remember what. At the time, I had an ER-301 and figured that it would ultimately replace my DLD but the ER-301 fatigued me after a while with constantly setting it up, updating, learning new features and new ways of doing things. I sold it as well and now am back to square one. I’m looking at DLDs again too.

The time stretch thing is not necessarily a deal breaker, I would just like to have it. I want to be able to pitch a sound up or down. My Clouds can do this so not a huge deal. The DLD will do “scrubbing” but not the pitch bend thing.

Well I can say I really love mine! Other than clouds, (which I use in looping delay maybe 20% of the time) DLD is the only delay I own right now and I get so much out of it. I have traditionally been a total delay junkie so the fact that I only have one dedicated delay right now really says a lot for how powerful it is!
I do eventually intend to get a Mimeophon for more warbly / tapey things and to get delays with more character without having to dedicate modules to the DLD send/return path. But for now I’m really happy with DLD by itself.

Haven’t seen anyone mention c0 for its bit-bucket delay emulation (clockable) and sample rate reduction. It’s like d0’s crunchy cousin! You can also design Dirac impulses which function like multitap delays since you can slow the processing way down with the sample rate controls. Or just put a delay onto any normal impulse for convoluted echoes.

so crunchy

Edit: For a crunchy runner-up I must heartily endorse the NLC Delay No More: two matrix-mixed PT chips with clock speeds that can be set ludicrously low.

After seeing a lot of DLD talk here, I thought I might pose a question that’s been circulating my mind in the few week since I sold my own DLD: is there a pedal that does something comparable to it? I ended up selling it after 2 years of happy use because I got annoyed that I couldn’t get the send/return to ever work, no matter what firmware I tried, and because I was trying to slim down my eurorack.

Basically looking for a pedal that could receive a modular-level clock, could do similar divisions to DLD and could loop and delay, and could freeze and preferably reverse…just wanted to see if anything came to mind, knowing that there will not be anything close to a 1:1 analog for the DLD.

I haven’t used a DLD, so I might be off base, but Strymon DIG and Timeline are good for “two related delays” and whatnot. Timeline can also do the out there stuff, but not in dual mode iirc.

Also most Eventide “Factor” pedal can do similar things. I have a dual delay setup on my Pitchfactor.

As far as modular signal: tough to say, but I’ve had pretty good luck clocking various guitar pedals with Tempi!

I took delivery of a Walrus Audio Mako D1 a couple days ago. Haven’t had the opportunity to dive super deep, but did get to play with it a bit today. It’s been quite awhile since I sat in front of a stereo setup and just giggled because a pedal sounded so damn good. Here’s a quick and dirty recording I grabbed with the internal mics on my Zoom H5.

Nick Batt runs the Argon 8 through a Zen Delay - sounds rather nice:

Just picked up the Zen Delay today, as a gift to myself for ending this semester of hell. Feels great to the touch and laid out nicely. Can’t wait to put it through its paces!

Empress Echosystem (it may be best delay in pedal format): dual engines, granular, multitap, pitchshifted delays, etc.
Chase Bliss Tonal Recall RKM (my favourite delay thus far) : warm, loving, parameter ramping and with self ocilations to die for.

I’m a sucker for timebased effects on any instrument, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m no longer a guitarist, I’m an echosoup chef…

Yeah, this Zen Delay is a load of fun. Very playable, very performative. Awesome UI and sound. Here’s my first go at it:

Yeah I’m totally pumped. It’s slowly making its way to the finish line.

I picked up an Empress Echosystem in their scratch and dent sale. So far I’m really impressed with the number of algos, the control layout, and dual engines. I’m not sure I’m loving the sound design of the algos as much as some others that I own. Am I crazy?

I know there’s no right answer and that it comes down to preference. I’m just typing this out because, well because lockdown, that’s why.
