It might be recency bias for me but I am in the same boat. Right now live playing effects routing is my new obsession…
Speaking of which, does anybody know of a stereo matrix mixer with VCAs at the nods, like Clump, or the 4ms one, but stereo ? I am clearly spiraling out but I want to know anyway !

As far as being performative, I’d say the 606 is less so than 80s delays. You’ve got encoders vs pots, the encoders have layers, and there are a bunch of algorithms to choose from. It’s more like the encoders make it easier to edit patches, rather than being a performance tool. And the sound is not like an 80s delay; it has a character of sorts but it’s much cleaner. later Lexiconish maybe? I’m sure someone like yourself will get new and cool sounds from it though, so maybe worth a shot?

There is not a voltage controlled stereo matrix mixer, alas.

There really aren’t even that many mono voltage controlled matrix mixers with which to control your delay sends and returns (as a means to try and stay close to the topic).

I’ve had a Fernweh for a while. It’s a unique take on delays. And it definitely sounds dark and vintage. But the unique thing is how you can switch between a double delay and a single one. It’s also quite noisy. JPTR fx are known for their heavy shoegaze sound. I use their Kaleidoscope reverb extensively. This one though didn’t work for me since I switched to stereo. It’d be glorious to have this design in stereo.

You’re welcome.
Just remembered that I’ve replaced the Fernweh with the Dreadbox Raindrops and I couldn’t be happier, this is one of the most interesting and with a unique character delays I’ve ever heard and played with. And it’s stereo. And it doesn’t cost 500€.

I’ve had one for a while and it lives permanently on the aux sends (after an MS-70CDR for those moments when digital slicing and dicing – or more reverb – are needed) of the mixer where the Norns and a few other things live; it really is so very playable as well, especially in a dub style. It’d be nice if there was some way to see which of the different modes the Raindrops is in at a glance, but that would probably have required more LEDs and thus more expense. This and the Darkness reverb pedal go so well with synths.

Yes indeed, brilliant pedals. And with BIG KNOBS which I love. And indeed yeah it’d be great to see the different modes but I just use one mode and have the setting how I want them so I don’t have to think twice. It’s understandable that they go well with synths, Dreadbox is mainly a synth company. But they also go really well with guitars.

Last night I played around with using the bugbrand pt delay as a guitar preamp/distortion and ended up really loving the sound. Since there are two separate gain stages on that box, plus a wet/dry, it’s very useful!

Very nice! I’ve never really explored overdriving the delay itself, but it’s another favourite that I need to bring back into use on more things these days.

@mattymattmatt - do you have the first version with the footswitch inputs for delay time and punch-in? Those and the send/return loop make it one of my all-time favourites for actually playing too (again, dub style for preference).

Nah, I have one from last year’s batch. That sounds awesome though!

It’s so useful; It’s a shame Tom Bugs has never brought back the first version for a run (though the later one has CV, hasn’t it?).

I’m thinking about changing my Verbos Multi Delay for a Xaoc Sarajewo. Any advices on the Sarajewo ? It just seems to sound so great !

Seems like a very different weapon than the verbos. Speaking of, is there anything out there modular wise that does similar stuff as the verbos?

I 100% love the Sarajewo. Maybe not as versatile as the Verbos, but it sounds amazing. Wonderful feedback and multiple tap outs is great. Would totally recommend.

OAM Time Machine is maybe a similar (not same) world: Time Machine – Olivia Artz Modular

Don’t forget the Karplus Strong mode when played by a DIN midi keyboard or sequencer too. I love mine, though I do sometimes find the digital aliasing a bit too much of a feature, especially when the filter goes to either extreme. I also always forget to use the built-in FX sequencer far too often!

Mostly that - I think the HP filter in particular can make the aliasing far more noticeable and sometimes i just don’t want that. Of course the solution might be an external filter, though the robot-control for the one on the Thyme is always useful.

That would be very useful.

If any of you lovely people have taken delivery of your Olivia Artz Modular Time Machine, would you be so kind as to provide some brief comments, and if the mood strikes you, perhaps a few sounds?

I thank you.

Hello all! This weekend I’m giving a lecture on using delays as a compositional technique at the Portland synthesizer conference.

Should be a fun time.
I have an hour and a half to talk about delays and demo stuff using my Mimeophon and Dual Looping Delay!

Love the sound. Sounds mildly vintage. Not too clean, not dirty. Bought it to replace my Verbos delay, but they’re complimentary in my rack. 22 hp forces more creativity than 20. Overall very happy.
