Came to this thread to check if anyone’s got the Time Machine after seeing Tom Churchill’s excellent demo, but perhaps not given the lack of replies since you asked  Looks unlike any other delay module I’ve seen … really tempted.

I have it. It is really hypnotic to play with. The digital feedback is pleasingly abrasive!

Missed this initially - I do, and it is gorgeous. The metallic low delay time feedback is something really special.

it uses inverting feedback, that’s why it has that howling-guitar-amp feedback sound. feedback polarity was going to be controllable but the inverting feedback became integral to the sound of the thing

Thanks so much to all for sharing your experience and insights. I ordered mine - Magneto has to go - welcome inverting feedback and metallic low delay time!

delay adjacent, if acceptable.

i’ve become sortof obsessed with just sculpting feedback with a space echo. feedback through a mackie mixer gives a pretty good amount of control with EQ and send level.

seeking a bit more nuanced control and looking for suggestions for outboard boxes, say a parametric EQ? desktop, rack, pedals? (eurorack/modular is outside my scope but discussion welcome)

what are people’s favorites to insert in the feedback path?

The Empress Para EQ looks pretty nice

@scttcmpbll ha, I was just about to say the same. liked mine a lot and the upgrades seem nice but tbh haven’t used that many eq pedals.

fairfield Long Life (weird and fun, nice CV implem)

wampler equator v2 (has a sharp 2nd mid band which is nice compared to most EQ pedals)

frostwave resonator (/DIY ms-20 clone. actually this is a good opportunity to roll your own SVF…)

a graphic EQ can be nice? ART EQ-355 is a good value for 31-bands, 1/3 octave, constant-Q, stereo, +/-12dB, with per-band level indicators.

oh, ha, i should try using my ms-20. thank you for the inadvertent reminder. i do love fairfield, and curious about the musical possibilities of “playing” a graphic EQ

An absolutely lovely way to effect and sculpt a send / return…

i think there are also some more modern versions of the ms-20 filter in pedal form (the so high so low is the one i’m aware of), but they’re all about as costly as just getting an ms-20 mini, so you’d really have to want the pedal form-factor.

I love a bit of resonant filter in place of EQ in the feedback path, although you need to be extra careful of things getting out of hand with resonance. Another nice thing in the feedback path is some very subtle bit and sample rate reduction.

I’m more use to the daw, but anything with discrete parameters that can create transient events. Pretty niche exemple but Ableton’s phaser got this “number of poles” parameters that creates strange resonant clicks upon modulation, really interesting when looped in an return track.

There’s also the RF20 clone of the Frostwave Resonator made by FTelettronica, which seems reasonably priced.

(oh, and the budget lofi version: Korg Monotron (LPF only).)

The estimable Jahtari, purveyor of 8-bit reggae and producer for dub poet Roger Robinson, was (and maybe still is) making bespoke modded Monotron Delays in Commodore 64 disc enclosures (and rack mounts too) that sound lovely.

modular option, but eq in the feedback path just reminded me of this module coming out soon:

I keep a couple 80s rack mount (Effectron and Korg) parked on 2 sends and returned to channels for control of feedback. I mostly just use the channel EQs to shape tone, character and feedback. It’s interesting how you can change to sound of the repeats with a balance of feedback on the unit and self feedback and EQ on the channel strip. Also fun to cross feedback between additional delays, reverbs and distortion. I’m spoiled now because I picked up a massive 40 channel A&H GL4000 with 10 aux sends.

related, video about reproducing Jaap Vink patches of controlled feedbacking tape delay w/ effects.

(time-coded link to graphical EQ patch demo)

the whole video is worth a watch. it gets reposted every 2 weeks in the Serge discord.
