The Heavenly Rungling Society, on Bandcamp, features live improvisations dancing with the ERD Caput Draconis. Why dancing instead of controlling or playing? Because the Draconis sings when it wants, and won’t be coerced…

The Draconis comprises four incredibly complex intertwined shift registers/runglers that recursively and excessively feed on each other in turns, directed by four mode knobs that each have sixty-four settings. Some combinations of paths lead to ongoing feedback throughout the system, and some don’t. The dance is all about finding that place where the combination of frequencies and routings are of interest, and then being able to manipulate the routings and audio codec settings to provide sonic variety without inadvertently stepping into less attractive mutations or killing the feedback stream. So it is a dance…

The main output of the Draconis can range from sub audio pulses and clicks, to low range gnarl, and up to hypersonic drill territory and beyond. Its multple pulse outputs have a similarly wide range, and are given voice in these recordings through pinging filters, phasers, and convolution reverbs.

Recorded throughout April-July 2023, Live to 4MS Wav Recorder. ERD Caput Draconis provides or drives all audio. Extra rungler control voltages achieved by nesting Fancyyyyyy Rung Divisions with Draconis on some tracks. Pulses treated through various combinations of Make Noise MMG, QPAS, Echophon and Mimeophon, Ieaskul F. Mobenthey Sprott, crucFX Duber, Modcan Dual Phase Shifter, SSF Entity, Folktek Matter I, and Tasty Chips ERC+ convolution reverb.
