I’m intrigued by this panel design. I’m going to speculate that there will be some sort of mechanical element to Talos - a cog that fires off three gates each time you rotate it?

is it possible to know the part ( and supplier) for the round bracket you are using to hold the tuning fork- is it something you have customised to fix to the plate. ( drilled and tapped?) It’s for an instrument I’m building/refining- not a Eurorackthing at all…

Hey @Zedkah, happy to share!

It’s a standard mechanical part called a “Shaft Collar” (in the UK, it may have a different name in the US). They usually come with a grub for fixing to a bar, which I swap out for a standard bolt.

The ones I use are 10mm wide, with a 10mm internal diameter, a 20mm external diameter with an M5 bolt hole. Most importantly they’re stainless steel - I tried a couple of options and this seemed to be the best for acoustic transfer, significantly more expensive than acrylic or non-stainless steel though. I think due to finish / materials / quality I ended up paying nearly 2 quid each one, as bulk prices didn’t really make a difference until you needed over 100 of the buggers (Which I didn’t need. I mean the modules sold well, but not THAT well).

I presume someone must also make these in brass, but I wanted the whole module to be silver.

Thanks…and for the explanation…I sort of get what you did now. So I need to get the size just big enough for the ball end to fit through. I think I have ordered these at work from RS components…yeah im in UK too…

Yeah, RS Components have got a great selection of this kind of stuff and you can order tiny amounts - great for checking out materials before buying, either from them or elsewhere.

Did you file a flat on the shaft of the tuning fork- or keep shimming the bolt with washers until you got the right amount of force?

Yes, I will post some info under the piezo instruments thread- as essentially that’s what I’m building.

Neither! I use a sprung washer behind the panel to keep everything still while I tighten everything, but it really is just nut, washer, panel, shaft collar, tuning fork on the bolt. The sprung washer is complete collapsed once it’s all tight.
