this looks fun! how are you liking the per4mer?

After a long time of shuffling around, expanding to 9U, going back to 6U, and struggling with cable management, I finally have a setup I’m pretty happy with. The GPD MicroPC is a full x86_64 PC running Ubuntu Studio (shown here with ORCA up, though nothing is running.)

I love the Beatstep Pro, and I’m going to do my best to make some music with it before I inevitably start give in to my gear acquisition syndrome, this time focused on the Digitakt and/or Pyramid.

I had never heard of the micro PC, super cool… How do you find using it in practice? Do you pick it up and type with thumbs?

No, it’s just the right size (for my hands, anyway) that I can easily and very quickly type with the left hand. While the number key configuration looks a bit odd, it is actually perfect to use this way, and the right hand can be used for the occasional complex chord like Ctrl+Alt+(Fn+F12).

I really like this little machine. It has a plethora of ports, including several USB-A, USB-C, built-in micro-SD reader, and even RS-232 serial (!). The battery lasts ages, it’s fully supported by everything Linux, and it’s fast enough to record audio while routing MIDI with essentially no latency. Because of limitations of my audio interface, I actually use software monitoring (I don’t get stereo without it) and the latency isn’t noticeable without a side-by-side comparison.

Love this setup! It’s quite cozy and cohesive. Would like to hear what you’ve created with the Castor & Pollux!

Thanks! I’m still getting my bearings as far as what they’re best for, but I posted two recordings with the twins in the Winterbloom thread.

I’m digging it right now and love programming it via the CV outs from the A4.

I see you have two piques. What do you use them for primarily? I have yet to look into the Peaks from MI but I’m seeing them in quite a few racks.

Thanks!

I use one or both for envelopes in most patches - either independent but identical ADSRs, independent and different ARs, or even different ADSRs with “expert mode” in the rare occasion I really need 4 independent ADSRs in addition to Tides.

I also like them as quick and dirty LFOs - not synced to anything, of course, but sometimes that’s what I want. The drum sounds are okay, but with BHB and Plaits that mode is kind of redundant.

If you’re looking at Pique now, make sure to get a v1.1 version so you can add CV control later on.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. I’ll investigate.

This thread is exactly what I need right now. Can’t take a picture, but I can’t access my space anymore and have to make do with just a small ikea desk. Will try to go vertical as much as possible. Thank you all for the inspiration.

I added a second Octatrack and a Zoom MS 70cdr pedal, brought my MacBook into the mix to pair with my Signature 12 mtk for multitrack recording, and added some framed artwork by two local artists (who I used to support at my old DSP job). Maybe it’s in my head, but my current setup feels like it has a subtle “tropical cartoon” vibe?

I recommend the Dead Man’s Catch firmware for Peaks. Peaks (Dead Man’s Catch) | Synth Modes

My little “easel” in the corner of our apartment, after finally recording a patch that I had set up for a couple months and doing a much-longed-for reset:

Beautiful! What’s the deal with the rampage panel?

Thank you! And well spotted :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: As much as I like the design of the Rampage panel, I just can’t really get into black faceplates — so I flipped it around!

Very nice! Are you happy with the k-mix?

I love this so much, beautiful work. I’ve been wanting to make a similar type of easel myself. Would you be comfortable sharing the specs?
