Had a buddy build me at platform clone as I didn’t have time, and now my set up is so much more usable. It’s amazing how creatively stifling a mess can be.

It’s an Intellijel 4U and a Make Noise skiff. They fit together perfectly on an old guitar stand. I really like how the 1U row works ‘between’ the two.

I’ve already got the skiff I might look to duplicate that setup. Are they the same thickness?

Not quite…the intellijel is about a half inch thicker due to the power board…if it weren’t for my particular stand, the skiff might slide back a bit on top, however, depending on your stand, you may be able to wedge something behind the skiff so they fit flush…

Still lovin’ that wooden buchla case!

For the first time in my life, I have a dedicated music corner! I’m down a shoe rack, but shoes are so 2019. The last piece of this puzzle was the power strip with usb sockets for Shnth and Norns—major key—which arrived today  The next level will be to actually get a chair… probably years away from that… decades even…

Daytime mode, with view of courtyard and for neighbors to wonder if I’m building explosives:

Nighttime mode offers glowy backlight ~vibey~

Artsy view of shnth showers above a bed of tape hiss… Fiona’s personal white noise machine (Fiona is the plant).

I’m so excited to see how a more permanent set up changes my workflow, if at all. I’m hopeful at least separating “music space” from “work space” will make both things a bit easier to focus on at the appropriate times… trying to not invest too much hope in that prospect, there’s no magic bullet for productivity otherwise the capitalists would’ve shot us all with it by now :upside_down_face:

I srsly can’t even remember the last time I put shoes on

My studiomates and I figured out a stable social distancing schedule, so I’m back in the studio and back to my corner. One of my mates installed a wifi-controlled LED bulb, which we’ve left to a glorious purple which does excellent things along with the red LED bar behind my gear stand.

Studio corner is looking glorious in its post-COVID repainting and relighting; it’s like I’m making music in a James Turrell dream. Current setup is from some experiments with contact mic-ing my desktop surface and using the microphone to trigger percussive events in the modular. If you want to check that out, I’m posting the results on my instagram.

Not a corner, but my mess (AKA How Many MIDI Controllers Does One Man Really Need)

I don’t actually have a dedicated space for music which is a pain, I’ve appropriated one of my kid’s bedrooms while they’re staying with their grandparents for a few weeks. This is the first time I’ve set everything up for ages, trying to decide whether to sell it all or really lean into my midlife crisis and buy a garden studio.

34 here. Not a midlife crises, but one of the most exciting aspects of me and my family moving next week is that my home office will now also be comfortably sized to properly house my equipment in a permanent fashion. Lean in my friend… lean in…

i was wondering if anyone here has DIY’d their tiny studio? going to embark on a carpentry project with my dad as a birthday gift to myself but i’ve never drawn up plans before and would really appreciate some starting pointers!

I have had some brutal experiences of working with wood. I have seen that in many ways, Wood and I just don’t really agree.

One reason why is I have to be as conscious and aware at the end of the project as the beginning. Consistency and not rushing are essential. As is the classic saying of “measure twice, cut once”

If you can, do some CAD level stuff (simple free iPad programs or google sketch can help) to make sure everything fits the way one might want.

Then again, if your father is a wood worker, he’ll probably help avoid almost all the pitfalls I find myself in when using wood.

Just ran across this thread and thought I’d share my little studio space.

After 2 stressful months, I’ve finally found a place and put in a cozy little space for all my stuff. The monitor placement is less than ideal and one of them is not even plugged in since the power situation is a bit tricky, but I can’t really use them anyway unless I want to annoy my roommates. Otherwise, I’m really happy with how everything looks, the theremin + Doepfer manual is a nifty little combo. Now the only thing missing is a stand for my Nord Drum and I’m done!

Nice. A vertical PDU is something I never thought about before. Makes a lot of sense. The floor is the most chaotic area of my workspace

It was actually born out of necessity, since the only power socket close enough is across the door to the right and the power strip’s cable only went that far. But not having it on the floor is actually quite nice, it’s easy to reach and doesn’t get as dusty I think. I just wish it had a few more sockets, but that was the most I could find at the time. If I now manage to isolate the spring tank so it doesn’t hum, I’ll be golden. :upside_down_face:

Continuing my wildly successful “dumb pieces of plastic” series I present the ultimate grid hacking stand. It’s just an Ikea laptop stand. You can use either side for the shallow or steep angles. The steep one is perfect for development while the shallow is great for playing.

Yup, those are really useful. I’ve currently got my Lyra-8 on one. A second one is bridging the arms of a DJ-style laptop stand in order to tilt a couple of pedals to a friendlier angle.
