Wow, I think we have the exact same taste in gear! Do you have any recordings we could listen to?

Usually I’m more of a ‘guitar, bass, drum machine add a synth here and there’ recordist but these two are pretty representative of the pictured setup. What about you? What kinds of tracks do you make with the gear?

I don’t have any proper releases yet, but I’ve been putting my various sketches and noodles up on my SC and YT channels.

Mine has evolved somewhat since I last posted in this thread (living in a different place and have taken quite a deep-dive into the monome ecosystem in the intervening time).

Did a studio re-org last weekend. Still feeling a bit like I’m in a transitional phase but I think the way I rearranged everything will help shake out what goes and what stays. The TR8S is somewhat on the chopping block because I really haven’t been making “drum machine music” for basically all of 2020. Partially because there’s no live shows and dance music is most rewarding to me in a live environment, and partially just because I’m jumping further down the full ambient modular rabbit hole :smiling_imp:

Other big change: a microphone! I’ve never used my vocals in my music before because I can’t really sing on pitch at all. Decided to finally snag a microphone because of the Meris Hedra pitch shifter / harmonizer I picked up a few months ago. That hasn’t found a home yet and may also be on its way out but I’ve been having a BLAST with vocals for the last week! Boy I really can’t sing, so I’ve been keeping the Hedra at full wet with the autotune mode set pretty high. The tones I’m getting out of it are like instant Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith though, and that’s pretty fun. I’ve lost hours just singing various ooohs and ahhhs (and whistling!) into the mic and sending that into the modular gear. Nothing I’d want to record yet, but it’s certainly been a lot of fun and a nice therapeutic practice.

After about a month of trying out a sitting-on-the-floor home studio setup (inspired by @pelang’s absolutely gorgeous mobile desks), and finding it not quite working for me, I’ve made myself an easel (not Easel) style workstation that has so far been exactly what I want.

It’s still a work in progress — I’ve yet to add a small desk space below the lowest rack — but it’s already feeling inspiring in a new way.

I love how self-contained everything is; it makes the entire easel feel like an instrument in its own right. Also loving the NASA-technician-meets-switchboard-operator ergonomics of patching at this angle!

Here’s a picture of it empty in case anyone wants to try something similar.

Nice work–simple and beautiful. I like how you have a custom row for the 16n fader bank, and I also love anything on wheels. Would love to see an update when you have the desk added.

This reminds me… I saw this ‘My Workflow’ kind of YouTube video featuring a hotshot rap producer, a white dude, no more a young buck (Not Mike Dean if memory serves) who had this fantastic cart with rotating wheels that had – I think – his mixer on it… Would love to find that video again.

reminds me of http://www.minigorille.com/#music_easel.html

I really like this approach for combining stuff (and the frame is nicely built).

very nice!
How about making/designing a matching chair ? :slightly_smiling_face:

This was a source of inspiration for me! I had actually seen this picture years ago when I was first getting into eurorack, and then couldn’t find it again until last week. Such a gorgeous setup and space!

@pelang that’s a great idea — maybe something along the lines of Enzo Mari’s chairs?

What is the wooden box with the arcade buttons?

That is a Paradise MIDI MIDI controller!

It’s a prototype Blue Lantern Synthx! Found it on Craigslist, fell in love with the pink and gold faceplate. It’s got kind of a Serge vibe — two oscillators, two envelopes, a filter, a VCA, and an LFO, all very squelchy and unpredictable and wild.

I like the look of those.

I spent some time reorganizing and realized that the Beatstep Pro isn’t really meeting my needs at the moment. I have no real need for a mobile workstation due to the 'rona, so my Thinkpad T480 has been repurposed as a dedicated ORCA/JACK/ReNoise/Audacity machine, with the vanilla KeyStep for note entry - and, of course, the 16n for maximum control of my teeny tiny Mutable clones!
