I recently added pegboard to the wall of my tiny corner studio. Honestly, changed everything for the better - cable management has never been easier! If you are stuck for space, I recommend going vertical…

Hey everyone!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Loving this kind of topic, so here’s my humble contribution.

My studio corner’s in our living room (which is kind of our creative room too), so I had to sort out some sort of acoustic SOS kit (hence these 4 surprisingly effective panels, 2 being on wheels). I wanted to keep it all clean and elegant, somehow inobtrusive when everything’s “folded”.

Built it all myself, and will certainly build a new desk soonish (and have already planned to upgrade the panels too).

Anyway, less words more pictures

How am I supposed to make music in these a-paw-ling conditions?

Some big changes- RYTM out, Impact in. SH2 in. Extra eurorack modules sold. Everything re-wired for instant gratification (RE-501 and El Cap arranged in a multi-tap stereo configuration is heavenly). Loving the immediacy of this combination of instruments- no menus!

ha- it’s there to provide friction for putting things on top of it for live shows (BAM, el cap). And the chorus buttons don’t stay pressed down so I have a piece of tape attached to a knob to apply pressure to keep them pressed down. Getting that fixed one of these days! (though I use the chorus pretty sparingly anyway)

How do you like the Impact?
I’ve been thinking of adding a drummer to my setup but don’t know which one to get.

I live in a shared apartment with four people and am at college. I have my own room so thats okay. I have some gear/items and I find that whenever I take it out and put in on my floor it gets so messy and the amount of leads so much it looks very disorganised.

I don’t know how to manage my space/ make music with a small enviroment and was wondering if anyone had any advice on reducing mess/ how to keep the space clean and clear with lots of things music things. I can’t put anything on my desk as I use that to study and get distracted if my music things are on it and it takes a long time to put away.

Thanks!

Do you have decent size drawers/shelves?

If so you could build up the synth equivalent of a ‘pedalboard’ (just use whatever ply/furniture board you can find) and fit your kit onto that, all wired up it’s then easy to stow away (fit a couple of handles) when your not using it.

Not tiny, more than one corner, but a lifelong dream. Really excited to share on this thread. I recently bought a house with enough spare space for my wife and I both to have music/art studios. The electronic gear is mostly sufficient for where I feel my music is going (it’s endlessly amazing to me what you can do with enough computing power), but my goals going forward are to collect and/or build more stringed and percussion instruments – eventually a kayagum, but maybe a bowed psaltry and/or a hurdy gurdy along the way.

Congratulations, that’s a beautiful space!!

Keep us all posted if you start making an instrument…

Kind of tight, kind of a mess, always productive

Is that a DIY cable holder? I like the little compartments on the side of it.

This makes me feel like the oldest man alive, but the first thing I noticed was the laptop behind the 6U and felt concern for your wrists.

Thanks! Will do – although that’s a ways off yet. Still need to organize the basement and build a workshop.

Freshly cleaned and focused.

The cable holder is a Hosa Monkey Bars. It’s attached to a lamp.

Its a little awkward reaching over the modular to get the laptop, but I hadnt thought of the wrist issue. I could probably move the 6U over, pull the laptop up and find a way to utilize the lost space behind. I will have bigger organizational problems if I pull the plug on a Summit anyway

I’d really like to be in this topic “focused desks” but I don’t think i qualify.

I chose this corner because there is a big window to the left of the modular.
Opz for sketching out ideas and for drums sounds. 2 guitar pedals for reverb
and delay. Recording duties, among a lot of other things, is handled by the
ER-301. I spend lots of time here.
