Here’s my Push corner. The iPad and the Push are connected to a Mac mini under the desk. I’m using Duet Display to turn the iPad into a touch screen for Ableton.

Wow that’s a super clever use of the iPad/mac mini combo

Can you please say more about Duet Display?

Would it work with a MacBook Pro instead of a Mac Mini?

This could be an interesting replacement for Touchable…

It also works with a MacBook Pro, and you can have both screens (MacBook and iPad) running simultaneously.

One tip: I use an HDMI dongle to spoof the Mac into thinking that it has a real screen attached. This is required to be able to start up the Mac mini without a monitor attached.

I chose Duet Display as I already had it, and it’s free to use via USB (wireless requires a subscription, and I don’t need it).

It works very well. If you switch apps a lot on the iPad, then Duet can get confused, but restarting the app always fixes it.

Touch is great, and you can also use the Apple pencil for fiddlier stuff, and for drawing in automation. It’s also great for the Piano roll.

I prefer the big screen and a mouse when editing only with Ableton, but for using with the Push, I find the iPad setup to be really great.

Just checked and with usb it’s 3,99$/month (if anyone needs to know this info ;))

For me it’s free to use with USB, but I have had the app for years. Perhaps I got a free “subscription” because I bought the app in the past.

It’s regular strip-shelving, also known as single-slot shelving.

Steel strips vertically fastened to a wall, brackets hook into the strips, shelves sit on the brackets. It’s a solid system with barely any noticeable movement at all.

We moved about 4 months ago from a house that I built a studio in. New house has no such space (yet!). So my little corner will have to make due.

some former views for the studio thread (as a treat) while I pack up this iteration

got a bit lucky w/ rent prices for this apt, probably the first & last time we’ll have a music-only room for a while, but I think living room floors suit us pretty well anyway : )

(all furniture in the pic was made on the back porch)

this track has been occupying my mind today - i’ve been on such a meloncholy downtempo kick lately. i thought i’d try and make something directly inspired by that track
