For the floor dwellers, I would suggest to go to your local yoga store and get a comfortable meditation mat…

I would add that a yoga block was life changing for me. I’m an elementary school music teacher, so I’m sitting on the floor constantly. Having a block to elevate somewhat does something wonderful for my spine.

I don’t know where else to ask this, so this thread seems the most fitting. Here’s my situation:
I’m currently living in a tiny 30sqm flat with my girlfriend. We’ve made ample room for all my gear which now occupies a table spanning the length and a corner of the living/ bed room. What I hadn’t realized when designing this configuration is that I don’t particularly enjoy sitting at an office table to make music.
So a few days ago I’ve had the idea pop up in my head of a coffee table that doubles as a creative hub, and now I’m obsessed with it. In my head I picture it as a table with two levels, sitting in front of the couch. The upper level is to be used in a standard living room situation, but can also be removed to access the lower level which houses my stuff (19" rack, Eurorack case, effect pedals, tape deck) in a workflow-friendly way. It would be the ideal incorporation of my creative urges into my lazy lifestyle, while also minimizing footprint to save valuable space.

What do you think of this idea? Has anyone else done something similar to this? If so, do you have recommendations in any way? Thanks in advance and lots of love

First thing that comes to mind is beer spills seeping through the cracks on to your modular :grimacing:

That being said, I’m trying to plan something similar. I’m thinking of something with wheels – kind of like a small cabinet, which could double as a tall desk, but that opens up with a few levels inside, at least one possible to pull out to gain better access.

There’s actually this video featuring some legendary rap producer that has, as far as I can remember, a mixing desk housed in a similar arrangement, but can’t for the life of me find the video now…

yeah, I’m also coffee table kind of person as you can see from this earlier post. I’m also extremely lazy so I personally would not bother with the 2nd floor.

Mine looks like this at the moment:

Still not sure how I want to use all this, record jams or arrange/mix on the octatrack, but I think I have a lot to work with!

Maybe not tiny, but in comparison to my old pre-flood studio, really tight:

In the Platform’s rack bays are a 500-series rack with one pre/comp combo and a monitor controller (left side), Pod HD Pro X and half-space filler (center), and PB, audio interface and Furman power (right side). I have a couple of controllers that I pull into service when needed (Push 2 and various Novation things), as well as the guitars, norns and MPC Live.

Monitors are almost 20 year-old KRK V6’s. And I still love 'em. I also really like that Platform desk; it’s been a great addition to my corner - makes for a very comfortable work area.

What are the modules 4, 5 and 6 in the bottom row?

the bottom row from L-R: bizmuth, triple sloth, just friends, teletype, grandpa + spa, cold mac, RIP.

How do you like the bizmuth?

it’s interesting… i’ve used it to generate chaotic gates to trigger teletype or open a LPG, or “strum” just friends. I’ve used it a little bit to route other signals although not as much. I find unless I’m trying to use it specifically I’ll only use it if I want to manually control a gate, in which case it can be a fun and unruly tool—but certainly not a precise tool— for that job. I find it very beautiful to see and it comes in handy in a case where I probably am really more in need of a mult sometimes. The use that I got it for (triggering teletype) went out the window when i discovered you can trigger scripts using the F1-F9 keys so I’m not sure it’ll will stay in there long term. Wish there was more people sharing weird things they do with it but I feel like maybe the low cost/low bar for entry makes people less interested in taking the time to experiment with it than they would with something more expensive :stuck_out_tongue: maybe its just too niche or not interesting enough though lol i dunno

Synth rack. Added bonus… the metal sounds amazing through the Morphagene.

In the box…

Not over outboard…best part…definitely the patchbays. How the hell did it take me 20 years to figure that out?

Pedals…

Cinci pride…

Odds n ends

Guitars, bass, mando, uke, amps, etc. don’t fit in there.

I’ve finally been able to set up a little space in the living room to make music. TBH it’s not a studio, but rather a rehearsal space, since I’ve set it up to practice for live performances and random jamming.

The set up changes constantly, depending on what I’m focusing on at the moment. Right now it’s the SK-1 and the Octatrack and some pedals.
The context makes it perfect to create some houseplant tunes!

I love that modded SK-1. Any chance you could share a shot of the panel and some notes on what the mods are doing?

I remember seeing this SK-1 before and found this…

I have an SK1 and have kept it in it’s original state despite the recurring urge to bend it. I would be too sad if I bricked it. Believe it or not there are some really cool things you can do with an unbent SK1.
