Yes! Albeit a very old one. Funny how the front panels have basically not changed in 35 years, but new ones are probably about 1/10th of the thickness and weight. It still get’s the job done for basic analog circuit debugging, and the green lazer-like light of the display is pretty cool.

Continuing to shrink the ‘kitchen studio’, focusing more on the 2600 and the MPC, with a small sidecar of stuff that activates the 2600 nicely.

Unseen is the grid that I swap into the Ansible for Kria action. I actually tried going smaller (using a 1010 Blackbox instead of the MPC Live), but that was no-joy. I’m sure the modular sidecar is going to continue going under revision, but it’s fun tonight!!!

I definitely think the 1104X-E is pretty much the best entry-level engineer’s scope on the market right now. I tried to use one of the nicer handheld ones but they’re just so fiddly; much like the modules we use for music making, having big, tactile, knob-per-function controls is really important.

The other benefit of the 1104X-E is its 4-channel capability, excellent FFT/frequency domain display, and, while it’s software limited to 100 MHz, it can easily be hacked up to 200 MHz if you want to do some radio stuff as well. I’m a ham radio operator, so that’s maybe more important to me than others, lol.

The main competitor from Rigol, at around the same price point, is getting pretty long in the tooth at this point in time.

Been thinking about trying the Deluge again. Would you mind letting us know how it’s working out with the Tracker for you? Thanks!

The Deluge is one of my only pieces of gear that I know I’ll never sell. I absolutely love it. There are some confusing aspects of the workflow (I still suck at looping with it, after coming from years with a Boomerang) but it does so much. I really think everyone should have one. If you haven’t listened to the Boards of Deluge packs yet, check those out.

The Tracker midi implementation is still in early stages but I enjoy pairing them. I am using Tracker for glitchy rhythms and Deluge for synth sounds. Generally not using song/arranger mode on either at the moment. I have mute groups set on the Deluge, use that as clock and transport control.

Also, laughing at myself because I just posted about getting a Nord Drum 3P sometime next year…already ordered one. Was supposed to arrive today but looking like maybe tomorrow or Monday instead.

would love the sketchup plans! gorgeous work

I don’t think this has changed much since the last time I shared here but I’m feeling pretty clausterphobic in the spot  my partner and is place is tiny and we share a work desk. I really want to find an angled stand I can put my eurorack on, build the SQ1 into, and maybe even have a small shelf for a soldering iron and snips
Can anyone recommend decent, small monitors? I have maybe 4 inches clearance on either side - maybe it’s best to stick to headphones for now. Ha.

Mug is from the east is a podcast ^.^

The K&M Heli 2 guitar stand works as a solid angled stand for modular cases. I use one with my Make Noise 7u case.

As far as small monitors, I’ve heard good things about the lil Genelec 8010A’s

Tidied up and got off the floor. Didn’t think the Buchla worked there but was out of room, but it’s actually quite convenient there.

I know genelecs are praised, and they’re definitely good and honest speakers, but I’ve never vibed with them personally — perhaps with exception for their very large models 8331 which are amazing in a big room. the smaller ones are very clear, but also quite sharp, and gives me ear fatigue quicker than many other speakers. they’re also very directional, and a lot is lost outside their sweetspot. I’d say a sub is needed with the 8010A.
if you’re only mixing, perhaps it’s good to have those type of speakers that say “if it sounds good here, it sounds good everywhere”. but when making music and producing, I generally prefer monitors that give you a little more pleasurable listening experience, a little softer sound with more depth. I like adam a5 (never heard the a5x model but I assume it’s similar or better), and they also have the even smaller a3x. there’s also focal shape 40 which are very nice and have a good low end for such small speakers. the yamaha hs5 are a cheaper alternative which is worth giving listen to… also, I would not rule out getting some small bookshelf hifi speakers from bowers and wilkins or something similar, and a decent amp.

finally, it comes down to taste. and your room will affect the sound a lot. if you have a pro audio store around your area, go there and listen to a few different brands and decide what you like the most : )

I’m using a pair of Edifier S880DB speakers which double as my computer speakers. Or a refurbished Logitech Boom. Both due to space constrains. The Edifier has a ‘Monitor’ option on it’s remote, but I can’t recall if I ever used it. Still I’m quite happy with how they sound, but I’m not a purist nor audio expert

It’s actually a corner now!

May I ask about that wooden pyramid? Perhaps a DIY device with some contact mics inside for sound design?
