That’s no way to talk about Blades, the new dual filter with wave folding and phase modulation from Mutable Instruments.

Here’s my (sorry a little messy) corner of experimentation. Hoping to add a grid 128 (once back available) and ansible for the modular. All my guitars have been demoted and haven’t been picked up for quite some time now. Tape looping has been my main focus during this year of on and off lockdowns

Love the round window

Yeah, DIY project using a blue samsonite briefcase/attache from the 60s. It isnt as clean as i’d like but still is really portable/slimline for taking around.

Thanks man! Very nautical looking this apartment

We have round windows in a couple of rooms, and after living with them for a few years I’d say that there are good reasons that windows are usually rectangular! Due to mechanical tolerances, they don’t open and close nearly as easily, and if you have a round bedroom window, all the moisture from your breath pools at the bottom in the winter instead of evaporating evenly.

Wonderful, enviable, focused desk! Would love to hear more about your workflow with your eurorack and the uhers.

Thanks so much @taylor

I’ve been working with two flows really. Either recording loops from the modular to 2-4 tape loops then playing back on both Uhers + a old beocord (the large one on the right) and also a really old elizabethan reel to reel from the 60s (not pictured). Then I would send them all back in to my modular system for processing.

My other flow is recording to loops from my daw/using samples and then sending them back in to the modular for processing, using nebulae and clouds.

I’ve mainly been creating long 30-60 minute ambient pieces due to a long ongoing obsession with the works of William Basinski/Eno

The process of creating tape loops is very cathartic and exploring the sonic possibilities of them has really helped keep me (almost) sane through the last 9 months. The physical aspect of recording, splicing and testing loops is so enjoyable and definitely feels similar to working with a modular system, taking time away from the computer is great. Unfortunately one of the Uhers has developed a speed issue so I’ve been attempting to fix that machine over the last few weeks but it may technically & mechanically be beyond my capabilities at this point.

Lots of what I have created over this time I haven’t recorded, I’ve just created pieces and sat and listened to them for hours on end.

Sounds like a wonderful practice! I do a similar thing, with cassettes, though one day I would like to learn the reel to reel way. Thanks for sharing!

You’re welcome! I also used to do it with cassette and still do dabble in that but I found the process of making loops on cassette more frustrating than with reel to reel

Just couldn’t help myself. Between a similar post a little while back in this thread, and the “Classic Laptop Music” thread, I was really jonesin’ for some old computer/sampler/dsp vibes. Treated myself to the Atari ST and Akai sampler for Christmas this year. Really fun little setup.
