Yes, the isms case is very well thought out. I was sad to read they probably will only make a small version of it again. 120hp is really a perfect size. Remarkable what the extra 16hp can do.

I think I would second your reduction of the Rainmaker to the DLD; especially as you have iOS integration and can get some really, really nuts stuff out of whatā€™s available in that direction. That would let you keep Braids, or go with Batumi an some of your attenuation/mixing thatā€™s unavailable in the 6U rack you showed.

As for me, I recently downsized as well (though not in and much of a significant manner!) from 180hp to 120hp (6U to 3U). My former rack:

Going with the momome stuff outside the rack is what spurred most of that, so that significantly frees up the ability to go small. Plus, I had a gig two weeks ago where I just showed up, pulled my case out, plugged in my mixer and was ready to go. That, for me, was the main reason of going smaller.

Lots of tantalizing bits there (and many Iā€™m not familiar with) but immediately Iā€™d inventory everything you want to modulate and ask if you have enough attenuators.

EDIT: I guess the Sputnik could be used to attenuate in a pinch?

If youā€™re like me, you may also miss pure sines for modulation. In which case maybe try and squeeze in the batumi? (And if you donā€™t and decide to sell, I may be interested :wink:)

@geh2oman - Thanks for the prompt for me to include attenuvertors, etc. They do make a difference.

I really liked your old setup. Lot son functionality there. But, yes, the monome gear can remove the need for quite a number of types of modules. I did notice you currently have only one sound source - Rings. You find that is enough? Or are you craftily using some of your other modules as sound sources as well?

@ppqq - Right, I really donā€™t want to give up the Batumi. So useful in so many ways. I hear your nudge toward attenuation needā€¦

Well, Iā€™m running the Sheep firmware on Tides (which Iā€™m contemplating switching to the parasite) and Warps has its built-in oscillator. I also run Three Sisters pretty frequently as an oscillator and occasionally have Clouds in the Resonestor mode, so I feel pretty set actually! I just like having versatility. Especially between Tides and Three Sisters, those two give me so many options. I realize thatā€™s not everybodyā€™s bag though.

On the attenuation front, could be worth finding space for a Blinds or Samara, especially mixing signals from Batumi and/or Just Friends that could give you a little more minute control than Cold Mac.

Looks like a great plan.
But I say keep the rainmaker. It does a hell of a lot more than the DLDā€¦ or any other delay module for that matter.
In addition to delay and looping to u can use it to build chords by tuning and stacking delay taps or for resonator functions with the comb filter. I know Iā€™ve barely scratched the surface of what it can do and I use it constantly

I was going to say the same - Iā€™d have to really like Rainmaker to give it that much space in 6U104. The DLD really does feel more suited to the smaller rig, but obviously, itā€™s a totally different object.

I guess the thing about offloading effects/looping is how much you want to just have that functionality vs CV/rhytmic control. And I think itā€™s reasonable to want that!

Iā€™d also suggest not losing the Batumi, which packs a lot of modulation into a very small space and feels suited to your goals. And the triatt feels useful too. Like, if you could have DLD+Triatt+Batumi and maybe the Ultrafoldā€¦ that feels more useful in terms of concentrating on timbral generation.

I like Rings. Itā€™s versatile as both an effect and sound source, so Iā€™m loathe to lose it like other people.

Iā€™m not sure what your system looks like. Is it in a monster case? Anyhow, I think it looks like a pretty good system and my current dilemma ā€œMy system is too big I donā€™t know where to startā€ has been remedied, somewhat, it seems, by breaking it up into small self sufficient (or almost) cases. My clock modules now live in a small case and they can serve whichever case needs them. My Verbos and hardcore analogue stuff is all in one case and (not yet but soon) my monome gear will all be in a skiff which could control any of the subsystems. And all the cases can become one giant transformer robot should one feel inclined.
This has also helped me with my live performance quandry - a couple of years ago I wasted a massive amount of time planning for some performances which I eventually cancelled (most anyway) because I couldnā€™t see how to create a patch in a live situation and then just pull it apart and create another one. My brain isnā€™t up to it. What Iā€™m doing next year in Hamburg (with Weinglas, shameless plug) is bringing 5 sub systems, 2 largish, 3 small. Iā€™ll make tunes with each and I might even join one or two, but I wont attempt to make one set with one systemā€¦

Tidal Wave is a sound processor and voice. It does a lot, but to be honest, I havenā€™t had much time with it. Here is thread from MW that will do a better job explaining.

iā€™ll try to keep DLD and batumi
maybe get rid of doepfer midi module and sputnik quand vca vcf for a smaller vca (tangle quarter + dplpg maybe)

I spent a lot of time with my setup over the weekend. Confirmed for me that I really shouldnā€™t downsize at this time. I simply rely too much on the modules I have, those that Iā€™ve chosen for their particular traits and how they work together with others.

I appreciate the solid and constructive advice you all have provided. It in large part led to my decision.
