Yeah, that’s a good thought. I can’t say I’ve really gotten to the point where I think of tidal code the way i think about notation.

But I wouldn’t really want it to be a 1:1 translation anyway. tidal code can be so much more terse than notation. I see that as a good thing.

Am I the only one thinking about ‘transposing’ their favourite drummers into tidal patterns?
[/quote]nope

meant to with teletype but always get distracted by happy accidents

this drummer mapping thing could be an interesting sub-challenge…post a short rhythm and challenge the other person with replicating the basic structure

Yes I think tidal is all about happy accidents !
But might be interesting to hear about what particular drummers do and see if that can be abstracted into a function

That said here’s a pattern I made that I called ‘jones’ after listening to Sarah Jones playing with Hot Chip

d1 $ sometimes (rev . chop 8) $ sometimes (|+| speed "2") $
      jux (0.25 <~) $ sound (samples "[ifdrums*8, future*8]" (run 8))
      # nudge "[0 0.04]*4" # shape "0.4"

Probably doesn’t sound anything like her but I was trying to capture that natural feel she brings.

(not to say that tidal can’t be about notating things for other people! would be v interested to see how that goes)

d2 $ sound "bd bd bd bd"
d3 $ slow 0.5 $ sound "~ hh ~ hh" # crush "8"

Not sure if I’m doing something wrong but the delay line is pretty weird and glitchy and bugs out on my machine with some frequency. I kind of don’t mind it though

@glia IT was getting pretty crazy anyways, after adding everything together. Love the changes you made to my original line!

I LOL’d. Video at the link.

Just installed TidalCycles to tinker with. Funny to put some of these lines in to listen to. Any places I should go for good tutorials, articles, essays. I see a fair amount on the TidalCycles website, but figured there may be some other spots for good info.

Thanks!

Was just pondering… couldn’t we use Tidal to control Ansible’s midi mode?

I’ve got Tidal-midi installed but not sure how to connect it to my Macbook and have Ansible recognize it should be in Midi mode / have Tidal see it. Currently displayOutputDevices >>= putStrLn is returning an empty list. Am I missing something simple?

EDIT: Found it in an Ansible MIDI thread. Apparently, the computer and Ansible both want to be the host and I just ordered one of these (https://www.amazon.com/iConnectivity-mio-1-out-MIDI-Interface/dp/B00CO5IRSG) so they’ll play nice. Will report back soon.

I hope @cannc doesn’t mind if I put this here:

It’s a sequencer for your tidal patterns.
