i wasn’t on the waitlist & was fortunate to pick up one used in my area. it is a totally fine instrument, it is exactly what is described, spring reverb with 10-band eq in the feedback loop. there is no special sauce besides it looking pretty, the demo video clearly has digital reverb added to it as demonstrated later in the demo video itself.

i highly recommend checking out the knas moisterizer (modded even better as you can put the filter after the reverb) if you want to explore deeper these sounds in a single device - you can automate these sounds a bit since it comes with LFO that can control the filter’s frequency, etc. or find whatever cheap spring reverb & eq exists on your system of choice - you can even improve on it with envelope follower + cv-controlled filter/eq to automate the feedback control etc etc. just remember to add some digital reverb afterward.

i think the demo video does a disservice by having the opening/main intro sequence going through another digital reverb, may give people a mistaken sense of its sound. no reason to burn GAS on this folks.

Get any spring reverb and a serge resonant eq and you’re gtg. I don’t understand people getting upset because he’s not turning this into an industry, come back to reality, no one owes you anything.

Owned a Moisturize for many years, and got to play with a Fjaerlette a few times and I found the sound palette being a little bit different.
However in regards with the 10 bands EQ and feedbacker, I have been using a Serge Resonant EQ Mk. II and a Low-Gain Electronics Submix Mixer.

There is not a world of difference between what is shown in the videos and what you get.
While waiting for mine to arrive I did various experiments with an Intellijel springray and different eq’s. It approximated what you can get with the fjerlett but was not as playable as a purpose built instrument. Also the eq bands are tuned specifically to the springs in each individual unit which is not going to be the case with a serge eq which has fixed bands.
Maybe a 4MS SMR would get you there?

here are the approximate bands of the eq on mine for anyone interested: 117, 152, 223, 295, 368, 439, 528, 767, 1123, 1700hz.

I see in the documentation they mention it is tuned to the feedback spring, but it doesn’t sound like they do that with every unit. Unless someone has one and wants to open it up and report back if it has a bunch of trimmer pots inside, I would guess he picked a single range for all units.

There are trim pots inside and the maker told me each one is adjusted per unit.

To the point of the units being individually tuned, these are the frequencies of my EQ, according to Kristoffer:

95hz, 138hz, 220hz, 305hz, 432hz, 543hz, 652hz, 904hz, 1.12khz, 1.33khz

(Which is fairly divergent)

you can test it to confirm, do one band at a time self-oscillation, use free audio spectrum analyzer (this one is FOSS on android: Audio Spectrum Analyzer | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository) and note the peak frequency

Sorry to go off the rails; I do have to give some love to this book! It’s a book on the works of Lithuanian painter Magdalena Birutė Stankūnaitė-Stankūnienė, who studied and worked in Chicago through most of her life. I randomly encountered this in a store for rare books in West Ireland a few weeks ago. Her works immediately struck me, but the book had a steep price of 195 euros. I looked online and found this copy on sale in Lithuania for 4 euros and just had to buy it immediately.

Both the Fjaerlett and the book arrived the same day and now I’m enjoying them simultaneously. I do love the rug too (it’s a piece called Suovilla) but my dog is very allergic to it!

Back to rails: Immediate impressions on Fjaerlett are very promising. I have no idea yet how I will implement it in the bigger picture though.
