New build is up, beta 7. Not many new features but some significant fixes:

  • Re-organized params to take advantage of groups and headings.
  • Fixes for handling of long audio files (should be good up to 2hrs at 48kHz).
  • Fixes for loading large sets.
  • Changed criteria for when files stream to avoid memory issues (longer than 5secs stereo or 10secs mono).
  • Waveforms now only generate when requested with K3, this makes sets much more responsive at load.
  • Faster waveform generation (less accurate but still decent).
  • Fixes for start/end/loop PSET saving.
  • Fixes for copying.
  • Fixed missing ā€˜by bars’ options.
  • Other misc small fixes.

Does this mean we loose the jumping between waveforms per grid pad when playing different pads (wich i really dig) or simply activating waveforms for the set once and have the same behavior as before?

To update simply web update via menu?
Thanks

Fantastic script @markeats I’m new to the Norns and Grid world, but I’m using Timber with Grid now to build my first live set with this application alone. It’ll be about an hour long ambient set, with roughly 15-20 samples, some of them long and evolving pads, some of them just looping textures. Basically applying all Timber’s offering, from grid control down to the envelopes for soft transitions as well as LFO for variation.

Honestly, not sure I need to do much on stage, actually, Timber just seems to take care of it all for me. Might have to load some fake samples, push some buttons, just to make it look like I’m actually doin’ something

I’ll record something from the set, to give an idea of how it turned out. You have no idea how many issues Timber solved for me in one stroke. So great. Thank you, Mark.

i’m having an issue in Orca wherein i throw an unbounded random over the sample position operator and it kills audio for the whole device (Fates). i’m still on 200328 and Timber beta 6, is this the kind of thing solved by the large sample handling in beta 7?

@circuitghost that’s awesome, look forward to seeing/hearing the results!

@fourhoarder sorry I’m not familiar enough with Orca to know what’s really going on there, of course I’d suggest trying the new version though.

interested if you find the way, I wish I could help but no coding experience.

Yep, did my first rehearsal today, no crashes, almost went criminally well. I’m like ā€œwhen all’s well, something must be very wrongā€.

I won’t be pushing polyphony more than five or six samples at a time, so I guess while I’m challenging Timber to some extent with multiple longer streams, and lots of stuff going on with filtering and LFO, I’m not doing much live tweaking.

Any plans to support Arc? I don’t own one, but am starting to find reasons to get one, and using it for live tweaks in Timber might just seal the deal.

long files loop mode not working for me, can’t see loop bars

Streams don’t have all the same options as shorter files. They should still loop but you can’t define loop points in the same way.

@circuitghost I don’t own one either so that’ll need to be a contribution from someone

Same here. Just putting it out there in case someone who has the knowledge might also have the interest.

I don’t suppose you live in Gothenburg, Sweden? If I get one, I’d be happy to lend it to you

Kinda get the feeling you don’t, though.

I was having trouble with some random settings in orca, can’t remember if it was position? If I put bounds on the random operator so that it is never zero, that seemed to fix the problem.

I believe that the softcut operator was the one I was having trouble with, not timber though.

Thanks for the offer! I’m over in Seattle though

yes, if i put on a bound on it, it’s ok, just have to remember to do that before i throw that R up there. so you say the problem seems like it’s with Softcut? how did you localize it to that?

It’s been a month or so since I had the problem because I changed my working style in orca. I think that it was specifically randomly modulating play position in the softcut buffer that was giving me the problem of freezing all audio, but it could have been timber? Like I said, it’s been a while.

I’ll try to reproduce this afternoon, I really can’t remember if it was taken care of in an update or that my play style just worked around it. I’ll have to look at what version of orca and timber I’m currently on.

i will update both Timber and the OS and see if i can get it again but i def had this problem in the OS ver previous to 328, forgetting the number…

First gig with norns and grid, using Timber. This is the last section of it. Triggers are all live, as is some tweaking, though the lfo and envelopes do most of the job (thank you for that @markeats :).

Used quantized launches, and applied the filter to bring out the mix as well as the internal compressor in Norns. As a consequence, I did no processing on this afterwards so this is the raw take.

I just had a listen through and it’s awesome! Super-motivating for me to hear people making cool music with these scripts

Thank you  Timber’s been for me like ā€I wonder if this could … ah, yep, it could. But it couldn’t possibly … nope, it had that feature, too.ā€

I literally put this together in two days. It’s like you really nailed it when it came to what this kind of script should do, its typical use case.

Makes me look a hot damn cooler than them MPC heads, too. Hey. That matters :sunglasses:

i wasn’t able to reproduce my issue on timber 7 with 200328. nice work on the sample access, having them collapsed like that is sooo much better.
