I’m still in early troubleshooting stages. But having a hard time getting my iPad to show in max. Any max osc tips for dummies anyone?

I didn’t really do testing with Max. I’ll have to look at it and see if I can offer any tips.

Thanks a lot for making this!
I was trying this out with Norns (shield) and I guess there’s something I don’t get.
I did change the IP address in the two lib files (it’s the oscsourceip variable isn’t it?)
I start load.lua or loadgrid.lua
Then I connect the TouchOSC to norns (norns shows up in the OSC targets allright)
Then I start Cheat Codes.
Button layout shows up on the iPad
BUT
pressing buttons on the iPad does not seem to do anything.
I tested it on the help page which should show some help for each pad being pressed. But nothing.

Interestingly it works totally fine with Awake. So what am I getting wrong here?

Cheat codes won’t work with this because CC has its own osc implementation and dedicated TouchOSC template.

I’ve not been able to sort out the conflict here just yet.

Also - be sure to unload oscgrid when you’re not using it as not to cause conflicts

Oh I see. For some reason I was convinced to have read that somebody had used it successfully.
For now I just want to play around with something to see if I want to justify or not getting a grid.
If CoV will not eat all my money that is.
Thanks a lot for the reply!
Any other scripts that are known not to work?

from my tests before making a dedicated TouchOSC template, cheat codes just sends wayyy too much packet data to be useful with a grid facsimile (pattern playback bottlenecks hard). you can always try with the script from this pre-OSC point in time: https://github.com/dndrks/cheat_codes/tree/fcae3a762c5c11f24b24df7d9996284805c900c5

Ahh this explains it! Things got a bit mixed up in my memory. Thanks a lot for the heads up!

No list or anything, but CC is the only one I know of with it’s own OSC implementation.

In testing I’ve noticed scripts with a very high grid refresh rate (more than 15fps) will be laggy and sometimes clog up hard.

This could be the reason @dan_derks was having bottlenecks.

So, unfortunately, you’d need to test for compatibility.

No problem at all!
Thanks a lot again!

…so do I first load on Norns the grid.lua and then the script I want to use?

Use oscgrid/load.lua and it will populate in the grid devices and then launch whatever script you want to use.

Use oscgrid/unload.lua afterwards to return things to normal

btw. tried it with MLR yesterday and it seems to work fine. I have no idea how MLR works though, so I can’t say for sure, but I haven’t noticed any slowdowns.

OK - this is amazing, and I do want to flag I’m pretty new to all of this (Fates, lua, otc) so bare w/ me.

I have the loader script loaded, and touchosc sees norns, however I’m seeing no connectivity between the two devices in awake (starting the test there for now since I’ve seen others have success with that)

Can you point me towards a more step by step process on how to get this wired up properly? Are there any steps after the script is loaded/any changes i need to make to the code ahead of time?

If not that, then i’m assuming the breakdown is happening on the touchosc side.

The idea of grid functionality is so exciting!

Read a bit, replaced the IP out in the lib files so now i see a visual response on the touchosc side of things. However, I cannot send commands from touchosc to the device. (might figure this out but figured I’d share my progress)

Maybe I have the wrong port in the lib file?

Don’t think you need to change the port. (But check the sending port on the TouchOSC side)

Did you see if oscgrid is selected as the first slot in SYSTEM>DEVICES>GRID ?

Also remember to run unload when your done

Changed the port back. Norns sees oscgrid M12345 as the first slot.

BTW i’m running on an ipad mini, so maybe UI scaling is the culprit? however, when I press I do get the feedback in the corner of the screen that it has recognized a press.

I use it mostly on an iPad mini so there should not be an issue there. dm me a screenshot of your TouchOSC connections pages and I can troubleshoot when I get home

Fixed an error in the code where keypresses were not registering… so please grab the most recent version from Github

Hi guys, I just got norns today, but I’m still a total noob. Could someone please explain to me step by step how to get it to work? I would really appreciate it.

Realistically this may not be the best thing for a total noob.

updated top post with github link and most recent touchosc template

Another shield noob here. If anyone would be so kind to assist in getting this up and running I would be oh so thankful. I can get as far a to where maiden is recognizing my grid presses but no feedback on the grid and no luck father than that.

a list of head scratches currently.

  1. Im opening the LUA files in text edit and pasting them into maiden and saving them in the data section. then playing and saving.
  2. what osc IP’s go where. Screen shot examples would be ace!
  3. wired or unwired usb setting in touchosc
    4 am I dumb
5 is hotspot or wifi best for setup
6 do the files need to be saved under data or code

Im sure In time ill square it away the more I dive in and ill update my post accordingly in the future to save confusion and misinformation down the line

cheers
