I am definitely a little dense when it comes to midi, but how do I map say my launchpad to the pads? I’d like to incorporate this into twitch streams and sequence with something like vcv or manually with my launchpad/ableton but Im not seeing how to map midi…thanks for the help and this thing is awesome!

Normally the browser should detect any MIDI devices that are connected and show them in the side-bar for you to select. The browser may ask for you to allow MIDI access on page load. I haven’t tested this functionality in a while, so it’s possible browser updates broke it, or changes in the web-MIDI protocol. I’m not actively keeping track of it, but since you’re asking  I will investigate and report back.

Oh, thanks by the way!

I’m so glad I found this! I was literally trying to do the same thing in Max/Jitter hahaha…
I know I’m probably being greedy but…
Have you considered using some kind of stream grab/screen cap to “sample” the video(+audio) and cue offline, rather than rely on streaming?
And then I’m sure you’ve considered the follow on possibilities… exciting to see people doing it!!

I’m not sure if I understand you correctly, but I think you are wondering if this web app could be made into a standalone, offline application that uses locally stored videos? That would be an entirely different development, since I’m relying entirely on the events YouTube is providing for playing video from specific points in the time line.

To my own surprise, this app works very smoothly, but at its heart it is a very simple project!

I just tested the MIDI functionality and all is well, it should detect MIDI instruments connected to your device and automatically start reacting to incoming notes, play and stop events. Let me know if you’re still having trouble!

Ah I see… yeah took a closer look. Still, like you said it works pretty well! I guess I’m just un-trusting of such things (reliance on streams/network connection/etc). I’m stlil grateful for your work - I am trying to explain what I want to do to some of my friends and I’m terrible with words, this puts it in a way that they can understand.

VERY KEWL!

just tried it out with one of my vids using Firefox on a Mac.
(so no MIDI)
but it’s really neat to take it for a test drive and see this being made!

plus…kudos on the Sun-Ra choice of vid sample.
