uhf

your tapes transmitted thru late-night static and broken antenna frequencies

uhf pulls a random audio file from your TAPE and runs it through @artfwo’s excellent Glut granulator w/ random parameters. volume/speed/pitch are controlled via the encoders and there is a tv guide. like probably many here, I grew up in the 80s and these tv ghosts have stuck with me.

Requirements

norns, recordings in TAPE

Documentation

  • KEY3: change channel
  • KEY1 hold: tv guide
  • ENC1: volume
  • ENC2: speed
  • ENC3: pitch
  • change the channel to begin

Roadmap

companion vhf which will include a few of the modes to be found in tunnels, an experimental stereo delay library I’m currently building using softcut.

This script has given me so many surprises in just a couple sit downs! Can’t wait to explore it more

Now that I have a lot of recordings this script has become really cool. Thanks

Amazing concept. Looking forward to seeing what else you think up.

Is it possible to go change the channel to a previous channel? or can we only go up?

not currently possible, but probably something i could do fairly easily. in the meantime you might be able to save settings in params? will check this weekend.

this reminds me I had made the VHF version a while back but never posted…

I adore it as it is, it’s like a gameboy game for norns.

I just discovered this in maiden. I love it. I didn’t even think they were my samples to start with

cool, glad people are finding/enjoying this.

after going back and looking at what I had for the tunnels version, I realized I just didn’t like what I had so never pushed it.

I also looked into the “previous channel” ask but that opens up more than I really want to add to this and/or more than I intended with this rather simple script. the ephemeral quality is essential to the idea.

others can certainly fork and/or copy parts for their own scripts! in the meantime I’m putting all of my norns time into a new thing.

Any chance tunnels is still happening? Happy to see half-done code if you’ve moved on to something else. Been thinking to myself about fun ways to do softcut-based delays and would love to see what you came up with!

it exists as a standalone (but can be added to other non-softcut scripts fairly easily): Tunnels

Recently got a Fates, and just want to +1 how cool this script is - just listened to and made a “mixtape” from my previous recordings

UPDATE: v2 (could not edit main post for some reason)

  • softcut added (aka the “vhf” mode in main post. if you don’t want/like this functionality, just turn down softcut in main mix section)
  • overall/code improvements. it turns out I’ve learned a few things over the past 18 months.

the tv is getting older and messing with the dials is very unpredictable…
