Yeah, I think ergonomics is often overlooked for hp savings. (Guilty). I think I may go with the AD triple for now. As I have a few cramped spaces to fix and don’t want to add to the problem!

Certainly. The push for smaller modules with more features is probably one of the biggest changes in user demands I’ve noticed in the modular world over the last 10 years or so. I think some of the 2hp modules are great but I always allow an extra hp or two to actually make them easily useable in all circumstances.

Just decided to google “vactrol” and came across this article.

So in my Make Noise Optomix there’s four vactrols containing an LED and a photoresistor in each, which then controls the amplitude and frequency?

I didn’t want to start a new thread, but I’m close to jumping on an RxMx (probably with an FxD) and was wondering if anyone else had any opinions?

The one thing that bums me out is that it doesn’t seem to able to do slow crossfades (even with external CV), it seems more or less designed for hard ‘edits’.

I’ve got that combo you mentioned and really love it, more than I thought I would. The thing that I think it do which is on the bummer side is that it reduces the volume, but just a little bit.
According to your thought about hard edits I’d say that’s wrong. You can absolutely make those crossfades slow and smooth with external CV. And you can make them nice and plucky too of course.

Interesting, there was a thread on another forum that suggested otherwise.

The RADIATE control is smooth but the CHANNEL control is steppy.

Yeah, ”steppy” was the word I was looking for.

Rxmx can be used for so much, it’s working great as a sequential switch as an exempel and it’s making a great partnership with Just Friends for instance.

So you can slowly ‘radiate’ outwards but not transition gradually between root channels, if I’m understanding correctly?

I love my rxmx + fxdf. like others have said, careful patching of radiate + channel can make the transitions smooth, or choppy, as you wish. It’s also really fun with cv signals…

I don’t really know what you mean, but if I’m trying to make a guess I’d say yes you can.
By turning the blue ”radiate” knob ccw and plug a sine LFO in ”channel selection” (you need to turn the knobs to find its sweet spots) the transision will sweep through the channels one by one. Extra fun with some random.

Though I love Make Noise, and official info is currently limited, but I think the upcoming Qu-Bit Synapse might be of interest if you want smooth? I recall it could smoothly crossfade from an earlier demo - tho I might be mistaken!

Not to break the current line of discussion, but does anyone have a suggestion for an aggressive
maybe high resonance LPG. I have a Meng Qi DPLPG, but wanted something with a bit more roar.

Thanks for the tip! That’s definitely cool, but semi-irrationally the RxMx appeals to me more. Maybe it’s the vactrols :sunglasses:

I dunno how easy this would be to get right, but you could try feeding the DPLPG back into itself?

Typically, LPGs don’t have resonance, but several units have filter modes that do. The Makenoise MMG is nice, as is the Malekko Borg?

Given that changing the cutoff also changes the amplitude, I’m not sure how well this would work, but it’s worth a try!

Ah yeah maybe resonance was the wrong word, just wanted something more gritty. I’ll check those suggestions out.

Check out RYO Aperture. It’s a vactrol resonant vcf/vca that also has an overdrive knob.
