I also have Sisters and Bark, along with two Amp & Tone. Echoing what @staticmass said, it covers different ground than Sisters and Bark. It definitely can still work as a LPF, with some interesting resonance and saturation that can be used in an additive kind of way, but I think it does best being used along with other filters. What’s great about it is its timbre and tone shaping abilities, the attenuverters, normalisation of exponential input for level into tone, the linear input over level, and input gain control. Makes for a very playable, very flexible LPG!

I haven’t tried the old one but I’ve read plenty of accounts that say it’s sweeter sounding. The new version is quite aggressive (though it can be dialled back easily, or give more to other filters to chew on). The vactrol in the old one will naturally give you a slower decay too, if you like that sound (I certainly do, though I’ve got Jolin Lab Agogo in that case to make up for it, and in my other case I have QMMG, LxD, and Optomix).

That’s pretty nice! I love the filtered organ kind of sounds from the HO.

A couple of days ago I ordered a SERGE RESONANT EQ and a VCFQ, but the next one in my list will be the AMP&TONE!

Great thread, nice to see some discussion on Verbos as I don’t think they get as much credit as they’re due.
I managed to complete my 7U verbose system about 18 months ago after I was lucky enough to support Mark Verbos at a live modular event and heard his Verbos system on a massive club system … it sounded immense! (I put the link to Mark’s liveset at the bottom, really recommend watching it)

The multi-delay & random sampling are my favourite modules of his & I use them a lot in the patches I make with this system.

I was recently fortunate enough to have a track included in the latest Tone Science compilation & this was made solely on my 7U Verbos system (here’s the system & link to the track):

having a lot of fun using the multi delay as a 3 input cv delay/mixer with the manual mix out and four burst outputs that you can use to ‘strum’ the asr of the random sampling or the slew trigger in of the cvp. lots of options in a dusg style patch with envelope follower outputs that can act as triggers and cv control of the delay time. so many polyrhythms :partying_face:

Amazing track! Well, the whole album is amazing! Did you really only use HO JF, Sisters and Mimeophon (and I guess Ansible)? Is it a single take? Or multi-pass? It seems that there are many voices!

i picked one up earlier this year to pair with percussion modules, inspired by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TBig-8JB6M. having a configurable gate stream and two voltage sources in such a fluid layout is immeasurably useful. my multi-stage makes its way into every patch, drone or otherwise. modulating step time is also great. i wish verbos put a little more energy into their manuals, because “enable”, “sustain”, and “strobe” functionalities are opaque.

if i could change one thing, i would add a dedicated clock out that does not respect the step out toggles. for rhythmic work, i clock externally using “advance”.

this marf cookbook is really helpful with the vms, same with the actual manual for it. one trick I found the other day is multing your external clock into enable, and then taking a cable from enable into advance will give you the main clock out and ref output like you would normally get from internal clocking (edit oops I must be remembering this wrong because any clock into advance will give you normal gate and ref outs). taking the individual gate out of step 6 into strobe will give you a 5 step sequence. hold strobe for 2 seconds and you can control the stages with the analog knob or input. hope that helps! i’m still deep in the trenches with the vms but loving the complex envelopes and less traditional sequencing with it

Thanks so much! Yes to all those questions, just those modules plus ansible played manually, and it was a single take too. I used a really long delay on Mimeophon, clocked to ansible, which creates a sense of polyphony when it starts to repeat back on itself, creating harmonic layers. The HO also helps a lot with this.

I’m noticing a lot of Verbos systems tend to omit the DFP filter and tend to lean more on the ATC as their primary filter. I love my ATC and can get quite a lot of millage from it, but I’d really like to try out the DFP. currently I have an E440 as a secondary filter, which is really nice, but only acts as a lowpass, therefore considering swapping it out as I’d like to have a high pass filter too. what are peoples thoughts on filters that play nice with Verbos? is worth allocating 21hp for the DFP? it would pretty much complete my Verbos system

o problem! just making sure i know what you meant. To me the dual four pole sounds amazing in demos but i feel like it might be better as a master hi pass and low pass than a part of the patch, like i might use a low pass gate.

I just got a Scan & Pan, and while I’m happy with it the sliders have gotten me a little confused. They control (attenuate) the level as expected when nothing is patched into the CV inputs, but if you patch something in the CV the attenuation seems to go the other way. Let’s say you patch in an AD envelope, moving the slider up removes de attack/decay until the level is always fully up. The slider all the way down the envelope works as expected, but at full “level”. Can someone confirm this is standard behaviour? I think I’ve seen somewhere it is. Anyways would be nice to know the idea(s) behind it, the other functions are really nice.

That is how the module is supposed to operate. If you wish to only adjust the volume of the signal after it has been affected by cv then leave the slider down and adjust the gain pot instead.

I have a few cases of Eurorack yet only own one verbos module the Harmonic Oscillator, if I was to buy another verbos module which module would be the ideal companion for HO?

I don’t own any Verbos modules anymore, but I had Scan & Pan for a good while. Mine was an early revision that had an annoying issue where the sliders made the panning slightly shift to the right when I moved them upwards, but the thing that annoyed me the most about my Scan & Pan copy was the width control. Moving that knob made the levels of affected channel go to its maximum.
I reached out to Verbos and got this answer: “I understand your confusion but given the nature of the circuitry, this is normal functionality for the module.”.
Wierd answer since I’ve heard they fixed this in their later revisions of the module.

Multistage is a great fun companion for HO, quite clicky though so it’s not that ideal for “pinging” each harmonic inputs. For that I’d quess the Multi-envelope would be useful, I’ve never tried that one though.
Not a Verbos module but my favorite module to use with HO was Pamela’s new workout, they’re not that perfectly suited for eachother since Verbos wants 10 volts to work as well as possible…

I do have the old Pams workout, 8 years later and she still makes it into every patch.
