thanks for this overview. Is the batch number have any responsibility in the behaviour of the module? Also do I have to install the last firmware prior to the first warm-up?
those clicks are that annoying? due to no zero cross loop point?

As I understand it, no, the batch number isn’t relevant. I would certainly install the latest firmware, but I don’t think you need to do that prior to first warm up. Yes, that it the reason for the clicks. Also, worth clearing the tapes from time to time.

So is there a stable version of the w/ firmware yet, and if so, how do I find and install it?

the current firmware is stable. By which I mean I don’t doubt there are still small bugs, but lockups are very rare and I trust it to behave when performing. The update instructions are linked in the top post :wink:

I just got my new w/ today and I’m experiencing similar issues. I’ve not even placed any cue points yet and I’m getting these clicks all the time. I’ve tried lots of times but I haven’t managed to get one single recording without these pretty harsh glitches.

Judging from the sound (short, sudden skips) it could be something like buffer underruns (at least that’s what they sound like when using JACK on Linux). However, the clicks always appear at the same point of the recorded sample, so I guess something goes wrong when recording/writing the data…

I’ve already tried deleting the tapes and I’ve also upgraded to the newest firmware (which I guess was on the module anyways, since I bought it completely new).

Does anyone around here have any idea how to solve this? I would appreciate any help, can’t wait to really get started w/ w/…

as a workaround, do things change when you change to one of the other tapes?

After failing with tapes 1 and 2 it seemed to work fine with tape 3 at first, but now it’s also clicking over there…

I also think that some of the clicks haven’t been there when playing back for the first time but came in later, but I’m not 100% sure and haven’t managed to reproduce that behaviour yet…

Wanted to chime in as well with my recent experiences with w/, sounds like we might be experiencing similar behaviors with the new firmware @lsky :

I’ve updated and cleared the tape and everything, but I’m still getting clicks at the end of my recorded cues- w/ will only record material at the end of the cue and it’s always a little distorted and short. Here is an example:

Would love to know if this could be fixed! This module is too good to give up on haha.

Sounds similar to what I’m experiencing…

The samples that came pre-loaded with the module (some synth lines) also had these clicks and gaps.

@Benjamin_Mauch so did you have these problems from the beginning or did they ocurr after using the module for some time?

Nice to see two w/s in one rack, I guess that opens up lots of possibilites. I was also thinking about getting a second one, after getting a bit more familiar with one of them.

@lsky The clicking/ popping started right when I got the module. It’s used, but the previous owner said they had never experienced the same activity beforehand. Also, I definitely love the idea of having two, just gotta make sure that my second works as well as the first haha!

Have you tried resetting the SD card or creating a new one? Could be another option because all this seems to have to do with some sort of data corruption.

I haven’t tried yet, mostly because I don’t have another fitting SD card around (only 32 and 64 GB ones) and I don’t want to mess things up even more (the process is referred to as “dangerous” in the wiki, but maybe that’s because it includes dd, which should indeed be used with care).

EDIT: I’m also wondering if those recordings on tape 1 actually are “stock samples” or if the module has been used before. Can anyone here confirm wether the first tape is empty or pre-loaded on a new w/?

I got mine way back in batch #2 (still first production run but held back for firmware fixes iirc) and do not believe that there was anything recorded on it after getting through the tutorial.

Okay, that’s strange. Especially since the samples on the tape were pretty random synth sounds that sounded more like someone tried out the module…

And I actually just now discovered the tutorial. This is insane, a 2HP module with such a minimal UI and it even comes with an interactive tutorial! That definitely made up for the bit of frustration I’ve been having so far. Hope to get things working soon!

Yes, the tutorial video was really helpful when I was thinking about wether I should buy the module or not.

And I actually like the sometimes a bit sparse and obscure manuals of the Mannequins modules. It kind of makes learning and discovering the module a very playful (and sometimes pleasantly confusing) experience. But of course the in-depth technical maps are also a great resource if you really want to understand what’s going on.

@lsky I can’t believe I’m saying this but I finally fixed it! Spent a while today trying to figure out what was going on- I tried reformatting the original SD card and it never worked :frowning: (might have been inputting some commands wrong or the sd might just be corrupted). I thankfully had another 2gb sd card lying around and reformatted that and it worked!!

Same here. There wasn’t anything on my w/ except for the tutorial, which wasn’t accessible as audio.
