Western MA (USA) events, meetups, etc.

From what I’ve seen, I think there may be enough folks on here to warrant a topic for this part of Massachusetts.

Hopefully this will be a fruitful spot to share events, plan meetups, collaborate, bounce ideas off each other, share favorite places to visit, sauerkraut recipes, dog pics, cat pics, chicken pics, etc.

As a new parent who also works from home, I’ve been living a semi-monastic lifestyle for a while now. I’m in Springfield, and if anyone wants to meet up IRL for a beverage and company, HMU.

If I’m home (ie. not on tour) I’m keen to meet. My system is modular/modular so I can bring mini system(s) if performance is involved.

You know what’s fun is Bonnie Kane’s monthly improvised music series “The Friday Experiment” at Gateway City Arts in Holyoke. It’s a beautiful space and some really great musicians come through. There’s always a group jam at the end, and the vibe is very unpretentious and welcoming to everyone.

This might tempt me westward from the coast!

Do they host bands? I’m hoping to find some venues for Underwater Airport, especially outdoors…

i am certainly around for hangouts & events. would be down to help organize something, if there’s enough interest. based in holyoke.

if there’s one thing the area has, it’s hulking industrial cathedrals just waiting for someone to make ominous drones in them.

I live in the Berkshires! I would love to host something on my property – a jam, outdoor concert, meetup, field recording, a photo walk, lines-camp, tractor rides, whatever! It may have to wait until I am done adding-on to my house (which currently takes up most of my time), but depending on the type of event maybe it could happen sooner. I am also happy to just meet up for a hike, paddle boarding, swimming, snow shoeing, Nordic skiing, or any outdoorsy stuff in general. Or food…

Just leaving this here for anyone who may visit MASS MoCA. It’s an updated list of the sound art exhibits on view. I had no idea Christina Kubisch had a piece in the clocktower. Gotta check it out next time I’m there.

Additional hot tip: if you’re in MA check your local library to see if they have passes to the museum. Most of the time it’s a digital pass that you have to reserve online and print out the tickets yourself.

And this is how I found out one of my favorite artists lived in the same area I did for 6 years :woman_facepalming:t5:

We always stop off at MASS MoCA driving down from Maine to NJ for Thanksgiving - it is an amazing experience and worth the detour.

Does anyone have a go-to person for electronic repairs in the area?

I’ve got a Moog Source that could use some keyboard calibration. I was looking at taking it to Mill River Music in NoHo, as it looks like they have a person who works on synths.
