Got to visit Commend in person for the first time a couple days ago after purchasing things from the mail order for a while. Picked up several tapes on the recommendation of the person working there and listened through the 2 tape set Yialmelic Frequencies by Diva Dompe this morning, breaking in my new tape player I purchased from @robbbiecloset . Really lovely listen, I especially liked the second tape of the set, towards the end of side A.

my friend just put out this crazy psychedelic dub (reggae) album with lots of Sun Ra samples and ancient Egyptian religion themes. I’ve loving it.

Thank you immensely for this - I’ve just grabbed it on iTunes but it now appears that there are actually 9 episodes rather than the 8 you mention in your blog. Potentially good news if you’ve not heard this 9th edition, perhaps?

22 Strings by Seckou Keita.

Driven here by more deeply researching the Griots (Central/West African tradition of music and storytelling – but also an office within society with slightly differing roles defined regionally). Caught that chariot off thinking about what it means for Freestyle Fellowship to have called a record Innercity Griots… To see how this and that are the same thing separated by 800 years and 6000 miles… Seeing in Kora tunings parallels to much of this ambient business…

I reviewed 1127’s debut LP, tqaseem.mqamat el haram for Middle Eastern music website Ma3azef and it’s very very good. Very impressive sound design throughout the album.

This, Abadir’s new EP on Yerevan Tapes is probably one of my favourite ambient albums of the year so far. The second track in particular is incredible

Speaking of favourite ambient albums of the year so far, Benoit Pioulard’s and Rafael Anton Irissari’s new albums have also been on constant rotation (Because they’re Benoit Pioulard’s and Irisarri’s new albums)

This tape and the sequels were my absolute #1 favorite thing to watch when I was a kid (when they were new and I was, I guess, between 2 and 8 years old). I had backstories made up for all the scenes, with recurring characters who would manifest in different forms throughout it… so great.

What I love about browsing Bandcamp by genre is that it becomes easy to find new good things, like this:

I love it when I stumble on something I should have heard/known about before - a whole history of music to take in instead of breathlessly waiting for album/track/upload/etc #2.
Amazing “contemporary drone” work of a somewhat upbeat nature in this live set:
