RIP Neil.

Jóhann Jóhannson is very quickly becoming one of my absolute favofavorite composers (and, incidentally, has collaborated with seemingly all of my favorite cellists, apart from several other musicians I’m keen on). I loved this film (Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy) but had neglected to give its score a good listen until now.

Started a new mix series on Currents, cool new site that allows building playlists from multiple streaming sources. You can listen and subscribe free here,

It was this dubious pairing, allied with my friend Matt, that were responsible for my descent into analogue synth madness. Alex, in his Source Distribution mild-mannered alter ego, once let Adrian Utley get his mitts on a Minibrute and then filmed/circulated the fallout, the results of which I’m sure he could have predicted only too well (the twisted evil mastermind!)

.75 speed was my fave for some reason. that was great. can i ask what might be shameful about this?

Haha nothing is shameful! it just felt like an especially weird and nerdy thing, so I felt mildly self conscious revealing what I was doing.

of course I don’t expect anyone would judge me for it around here, was more of a joke :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m getting ready for a DJ set next week, so lots more dance, funk, afrobeat, and other uptempo stuff than normal. Tony Allen & Africa 70, lots of stuff on the Detroit label Rocksteady Disco, and other dancefloor jams.

Also absolutely obsessed with Barker’s Utility right now, thanks to Peter Kirn’s review on Create Digital Music. Amazing record (as is his earlier Debiasing EP).

Just got this on vinyl. Highly idiosyncratic artist and such a great record that rewards close listening, have loved it since it first came out.

Carolina Eyck plays the theremin. Her retro new age-ness is charmingly corny. She does “serious music” too but this video is not one of those.
