Great solo guitar/voice album recorded in a kitchen over covid lockdowns. Turned into a band after this was was released.

Oh, Sextant is one of my fave albums ever.

One of mine too. In the 90s, when they were reissuing a bunch of jazz records remastered for CD, stuff from Impulse!, or Blue Note’s Rudy Van Gelder series, I was making my way through all of Herbie Hancock’s albums. I remember putting on Sextant for the first time and thinking where did this come from and why aren’t we talking about it more?

Volor Flex (also known as Trampique)

I’m late to the party with this and so I’m still picking my way through the back catalogue but I like the sound of this:

New (to me) droney goodness.

Laura Cocks - field anatomies

Jacques - LIMPORTANCEDUVIDE

I’m somewhat younger and was in the high school way after the reissues were already out - stumbling upon it in the local record store. I was crazy about Hancock’s later funk / fusion / disco era stuff at that point, from Head Hunters to the cheesier end of the spectrum, and had also started listening to more experimental end of electronic music, and Sextant completely blew my mind like “what IS this and how could it happen decades ago - or in the first place?” type of way.

I love the two previous “Mwandishi era” albums as well (Mwandishi and Crossings) but somehow Sextant remains the definitive personal favourite.

More anime OST, this one for one of the goriest and weirdest of all time:

(playlist link, not sure if that will work in the embed)

Came here to post this album haha, the YT algorithm threw it my way as well. Really enjoyed it as well as this other album (which I later found out was reissued this year)

Speaking of great early 80’s ambient, I also stumbled upon this album via Blood Incantation’s What’s in My Bag? episode. I fell in love with it just from the soundbite they featured on the episode, the rest of the album definitely didn’t disappoint.

RIP Victor Lewis Smith - Victor Lewis-Smith, writer and broadcaster, dies at 65 | Television & radio | The Guardian

“He posed as the astrophysicist Stephen Hawking using the same electronic voice technology as the professor to hoax Diana, Princess of Wales. Their full conversation, which included a discussion about Charles and the Clinton family, was released in 2015 after being kept in a safe for two decades.”

Cant say Im so keen on the second half of the deluxe edition (gets a bit metal for me), but the first half I love. I stop listening at track 10

A friend introduced me to DT recently, a name I’d seen around a lot but not looked into until this album. I love it
