Don't laugh. I was there.
Okay, it's easy to make fun of Van Halen. But that day, there were something like 400,000 people gathered in one place, to do one thing. That's a decent city's worth of people.
The Van Halen show in particular was a truly awesome spectacle, and I mean that in the truest sense of the word awesome. Watching the "Happy Trails" interlude and finale of "You Really Got Me" on YT still sends chills down my spine. 400,000 people lost their collective mind, at once. Hard to belive I was in that sea.
I routinely drive by the site where the concert was held, en route to the mountains or desert, or wherever, and the name on the highway sign Glen Helen Regional Park always stirs the memory.
