The Orthogonal Devices ER-101 appears to have some similarities without being a clone?

it has similar looks but none of the particular things that i think are interesting about the 251e

  • nested loop points with arbitrary counters
  • stage duration as rational number
  • tracks can trigger each other

which is not to say that er-101 doesn’t do many other interesting things of its own, of course.

Those all sound like amazing aspects of a sequencer. I bet you could do something in the spirit of these in eurorack using Teletype and Ansible. Sort of a Kria with track control by Meadowphysics… maybe this only makes sense in my head.

So is the 251e internal clock only? or is there a PLL so that the fractional stage durations can be achieved?

internal only. the fractional durations aren’t applied when using external clock (iirc)

using a pll for that is a cool idea

yeah I’ve thought about using PLLs for external clocks a few times but have yet to come up with a satisfactory implementation

the nested-loop-points-with-counters thing is really easy and really interesting. for sure could do it in TTScript i think

fractional stage durations, i dunno… you run into noticeable issues with the 1ms event tick pretty quickly?

So, I’ve been reading that the MidiBox Seq v4 supports OSC to some extent, and also is compatible with, at least, their own built versions of a grid controller.

Is it known to work with the Monome Grid in any way?

Necro-bump (as the kids say).

I have one specific question about the Squarp Pyramid, which doesn’t have its own thread, so I thought I’d ask here:

Can it record cv / gate input in live mode as midi notes (pitch / length)? The manual talks about recording CV events, and elsewhere about recording modulation from the cv / gate input, but I just wanted to make sure.

My only dedicated (non-stand-alone) sequencer at the moment is an ER-101/2 combo, and one of the features that I do not want to lose is the record mode.

I have one and I can’t get past the screen interface. Having to menu-dive on any kind of small screen kind of ruins my flow, but especially when it can only display a couple numbers and (poorly) letters. I like the sequencer, but I wish they’d put a little LCD screen on there like on an Elektron device. I think I’m going to re-sell mine (which I bought used, at least).

Don’t have one, but thought this might be relevant:

I’m probably the biggest sequencer lunatic on this forum; I’m surely one of the biggest ones in the world. After 20+ years and 100+ sequencers, the Cirklon has become my end-all, be-all. I could write a novel on it, am currently working on a video series about it, and other stuff. It finally replaced my previous favorite combo of an MC-4 + Roland CSQ-600, so that give some context for how my proclivities are wired. The Cirklon is 800 times easier, faster, more QOL-friendly, and so on. I run my entire studio off of it and can go from jamming to making entire songs seamlessly. It absolutely still has a ways to go with improvements and additions, which are thankfully on the roadmap, but even as-is it’s near perfect.

Just got on the wait list for a Cirklon myself. Would love to see some of your vids for it.

Good luck I’m 13 months waiting

It’s ok. I’ve got some Elektron gear and most of my synths have sequencers and arps built in that get me through in the meantime. Not as nice, but helps me hone my chops. I’m more a live player transitioning to composition and I want to start branching out my performances to include sequenced bits, so I’ll spend the year and change growing into that style of playing. Plus, what I learn from good Cirklon users helps me understand more about what I need versus want in terms of sequencers and helps refine my own workflows in the meantime.

I just watched this. What a great video. I’m going to try again. Ordered!

I got in on the pre-order years back for the GRP R24 sequencer. It’s among the nicest piece of hardware I’ve ever enjoyed.

Here’s a nice two part review with sequencing examples.

Dont know if it has been posted above, but the Schrittmacher Step Sequencer is a killer

Schrittmacher Step Sequencer

Didn’t know about that one! It’s 1400 Euro however.

Damn, this looks amazing… if it were $600 cheaper I’d consider it. But wow this is exactly what I want in a step sequencer.
