This is great advice. It’s on my to-do list to clean out a closet in my studio so that it’s easier for me to set things aside when I’m on the fence, rather than feeling a need to always use or sell everything I have at all times.

heres one i did today - 2 channels of Ansible Kria triggering 2 channels of Just Friends then 5 outs from JF to 2 Mangroves. Shape/Transient mode, nothing in the run jack.

Can you describe your patching to JF here? Mainly curious if you are sending triggers, audio rate, gates or whatever else to the channels.

Ok, I think I remember :smiley:

Pitch from a Turing Machine. FM from a fixed frequency square out of a Mangrove. Various rhythmic riggers from Pamela’s workout and Maths that somehow sounded good. Run with a dummy.

That should be it.

Its frustrating because I see all these things on threads like this and I want to try later when I get home. I’m usually too tired to remember it all by the time I get a free moment.

Mannequins/monome system advice needed

Got my Just Friends module on friday and loving it. I’ve been getting some really warm and rich tones out of it. So far, Floom is my favorite sound mode, running three different outputs into Three Sisters Low, High, and Center inputs, and listening to the All output. The effect that a +/- offset has into Run really does some wonders.

@grey - I’m curious what kinds of sounds you wanted to make with it originally. The expectation vs reality would be interesting. It’s true though that some modules work for some almost immediately and others don’t, so don’t feel guilty if it’s not for you. I sold my Rings module because I just wasn’t able to finesse certain sounds out of it (maybe I’ll try it again one day).

Oh now thats crazy cool, Im planning mannequins system myself and dont have a JF with me (YET lol) but Ive messed around with one a bit, nice to know sound mode can be cut in and out of the mix without the imperative use of a VCA, I imagine it would do some kind of a envelope by itself in some sound mode, now with the ‘‘air’’ input of the mangrove quite explains all the wonderful music Ive been hearin with Cold Mac as only ‘‘VCA’’ not being exactly one.

As proof of how deep this module is, I’ve recently found I enjoy using JF as a source for triggers to create wonky polyrhythms.

@Jonny - I appreciate the multiple voices - which was one of my main points of interest, especially along with the ability to address them alongside Teletype. I guess I should probably rephrase that. It’s just not a very good general purpose sound generator? Thus far, I’ve found that only a few specific knob configurations produce musically pleasing sounds, which makes it much less useful to me in that regard.

I finally got my Three Sisters (they had a big batch of Mangrove’s that ended up in Three Sisters boxes) and had some fun over the weekend mixing some of the different tones of the Just Friends. It makes me wish JF had a “Mixed” mode where it could do a mix of sound and modulation. It seems rare to use all 6 voices in sound mode. Thus far I’m finding a preference for JF as a modulation source.

I fucking love Three Sisters though. What a great module!

I would also add:

I really wish Mannequins included some “reference patches” in their documentation like Make Noise and other manufacturers. I find those to be really helpful in contextualizing the “edges” of how you might want to use a module.

Most of my stuff is MN, and I´d rather not see the ‘‘instructional patches’’ to avoid conditioning and explore on my own in a wild, undocumented way. In my experience this leads to a mono-pupouse modules clouds-style, like ‘is good for this that someone does in that video’ leavin behind unexplored possibilites, just because of a narrow mind induced by heritaged knowledge.
