Curious to hear the alternatives, maybe split to another topic? (especially since, reading from cdm’s article about how iTunes might be reaching the end of the road from apple’s “music a service” perspective, it would make even more sense.)

Annnnd it’s already there. Well let’s keep it alive then!

growing increasingly frustrated with my sonos 5 - forced software updates, and whenever i have to reboot my wifi router i have to reconnect sonos, and while the initial setup was a breeze, all the consequent ones were anything but.

what are some good alternatives right now?

This isn’t advice on an alternative, but I solved my Sonos issues by giving them all fixed IP addresses. In the router config pages I was able to go through and fix them.

The forced updates are bad, and the support for local libraries seems be completely deprioritised. I get they’ve got to go where the market is though.

If you’re looking for something portable/with built in battery that sound pretty good, then I can recommend B&O BeoPlay A2. You can pair 2 of them by B&O mobile app, but you can only play music from your phone in that configuration.

A2 has mini jack in & option to charge devices.

You won’t be able have a rave party with them though
