This new release from The Heavenly Rungling Society, Witch Doctor, revisits the tonalities and patterns of the ERD Caput Draconis, which is composed of “four draconic heavily simulated interlocked shift registers”, and intertwines them with the “drunken” rhythms of the Making Sound Machines Stolper Beats. Expect in the pocket backbeats to lurching stolper-ness interlacing with resonant pings, metallic skronk and walls of noise.

Beyond the Bitbox drum samples, all sound comes from the Caput Draconis, sometimes raw and sometimes voiced by filters, phasers and frequency shifters. The Draconis has a will of its own, and will constantly surprise (as well as mystify) those who improvise with it. At times it responds with amazing patterns and textures, and then moments later decides not to. It is a challenging partner to work with, but ultimately a rewarding one.

All tracks are live improvisations recorded from early September to late October 2023 direct to a 4MS WAV Recorder. Primary instruments used are the Caput Draconis and the Stolperbeats. Samples from the 1010 Music Bitbox, processing/voicing from Makenoise MMG, QPAS, Optomix and Mimeophon, Xaoc Kozalin, Harvestman Malgorithm MK II, Modcan Dual Phaser, with Happy Nerding FX Aid Pro and Tasty Chips ECR+ reverbs.
